I got the spicy beef and noodles and in a moment of insanity actually tried to eat it with chop sticks, helped by the fact I couldn't see forks/spoons set out already. Somehow after years of failing I was able to use them which added a novel treat to the whole experience. The noodles, beef and veg were all bursting with flavour with the broth they were all nested in really providing a well-balanced and punchy spicy experience. I have to say I really liked it and would be back. We also got a bottle of lemonade which was not like Sprite or Mountain Dew but the sort of cloudy old school type where someone simple squeezed a load of lemons into a bottle! The guy behind the counter was friendly and welcoming despite being quite busy and the prices while a little on the higher side were reflected in the quality of the food and service. It's just about 2 stars, chiefly because the food was mostly served cold. I mean it should be totally perfect as the food portion was reasonable for the price paid, and the ingredients were mostly excellent. Imagine serving crap, cold food from top notch ingredients and thinking it's acceptable. The oriental place right next door sells cheap food, cheaply and it had a queue of not fussy customers, yet I was only one of two customers who bought here the whole time I was dining. The king prawns (3) were great quality and the tempura batter was light, properly seasoned, crisp and free from oil. They should have been cooked to order, like all fish. The rice and sushi on the side too were darn good quality as was the pickled ginger and wasabi. I chose fried rice so it was well laced with fried, whisked egg but, like the tempura prawns, both were far too cold to be great tasting. The price also included a vegetable spring roll that, despite being burnt on cooking (see photo) was also stone cold and pretty much devoid of filling. I'll not return, but as a tip, if you go and you intend ordering hot food, be sure to say that you do expect your food to be hot. There's a recession on the way and if this is the standard they aspire to it'll all end in tears.

I tried the Chinese menu with crispy chilli chicken and a red Thai chicken curry and it was quite good. Just on the strength of this experience alone I think it's one of the better Chinese takeaways around. Now this is going to sound weird but the chilli chicken actually had sliced of fresh red chilli - most Chinese in town use dried chilli flakes which make for an overly hot almost acrid heat to produce the cheapest food possible while hiking prices twice in the last year or so and that's how bad things are these days. It's now my go to Chinese take away. I will review in s few weeks after I have a few more dishes under my belt but things are looking up.

What a shame they've decided instead to rely on pre cooked food that can sit in Bain Marie's for hours and skin develops on the surface. I passed by at 11am one weekday morning once lockdown began to lift and there already was a full display of cooked dishes - well over a dozen choices. The centre was pretty empty that morning and I'd imagined that some of the food would still be poaching there by 1pm. No thanks. The young staff have always been mostly a surly bunch, no idle chat, no shooting the breeze and a smile is rare - maybe it's cultural. They also have a sign up on charging for the plastic bag for takeaway when the plastic bag tax doesn't apply to hot food (yet but will from April 2021). The prices here have risen steadily in recent years and with the demise of the above dishes I find there's little left that's attractive about it for me. I tried food but the crispy chicken wasn't crispy and all the food was barely warm. If you go here you are buying rubbish. I'm glad there's a Japanese restaurant place right next door too which will be my new go to.
