I loved the wildness at this campsite and we enjoyed walking around the forested area. There are lots of bathrooms here with hand sanitizer, but no running water. In the morning we got up and drove to Tenaya lake to watch the sunrise. It was a perfect transition to start the day.

North Dome was the first on the list, and Porcupine Flat Campground is conveniently located less than 5 minutes up Tioga Road from the Porcupine Creek Trailhead. The campground is more 'primitive,' which means there isn't running water, and there are pit toilets. I didn't find this to be a problem, just remember to pack extra water for washing up or bring paper plates/pre-packaged meals. What I LOVE about this campground? There were no kids. None. No screaming, no crying, and everyone was asleep by dark. It's a hiker's refuge in the truest sense, and I'm already looking forward to getting in more nights above the Valley floor. The howling coyotes (?) at night were an exhilarating experience. No bears seen or heard, gratefully. Book in advance via Recreation.gov; 2 nights in Oct 24' were $48. No ranger at check-in, we left our confirmation number and site at a self-registration clipboard, but a ranger was making rounds in the morning. You're at around 8,000 ft. elevation here - expect much cooler temps than the entrance gate and pack your layers. Bring plenty of water on your hikes (more than you think you need) and hearty snacks. Bathrooms were clean with a dish sink room to dispose of dirty dish water. This is bear country, so ensure all scented and food items are in the bear locker. We did not have any bear encounters during our stay. Sites are situated close to each other, so you are subject to whomever occupies the sites next to yours. Water only available at the dish sink at the bathroom in your campground, there are no additional spigots near the sites. Beautiful campground about a half hour drive from Yosemite valley. There is ample downed wood you can find and collect for firewood, but bring a camping axe.

Thank goodness for the National Park ranger who helped us book this campground…read more I accidentally mixed our dates to Yosemite and unfortunately showed up to our Glacier Point campground with the correct booking. We used the sheet provided to us by the ranger to try to book a campground and got lucky with a one night stay at Crane Flat! They have running water, clean toilets, and a place to fill your water containers that's great for rinsing your cooking items/etc. Our location had a table, a bear lock storage container, and a fire pit with a grill! We also had parking for up to two cars. It is about a 20-25 minute drive down to Yosemite Valley (traffic dependent) and a short walk from a convenience store and gas station. Perfect spot if you're focusing your trip on the Tioga Pass section of Yosemite.

The fishing at the camp site is good, in fact pretty much throughout Lee Vining creek you'll find decent to massive trout. The campground is always clean and the portable bathrooms are kept clean. Deer often wander though which is nice just don't fees them. This is a beautiful spot that's never really full of people and for the most part it's quiet with respectful campers.

Yosemite is a gorgeous place…read more This campsite is actually not located within the park itself, it is about a ten minute drive out of the park and towards Nevada. This road is where you encounter magnificent granite mountains and snaking rivers...it's breathtaking! The Lee Vining campsite sits next to a creek and amidst these mountains. It is a drive-in site with plenty of shade and clean (non-flush) bathrooms. The site is well maintained with a ranger present at most times, the payment procedure is simple and on-the-spot. It will usually have empty sites when all of Yosemite has filled up. Why not five stars? Well, there a few things to consider. First, the site does not have any running water anywhere - this is not unusual on pristine sites and not a complaint on my part, but just something to consider if you have kids or require this amenity. Second, there is a creek nearby, so mosquitoes will be up and active for a few hours in the morning and as the sun sets - bring some repellent. Third, a very particular site (#19) is the happy grazing ground of a bear called Cinnamon. Now, Cinnamon was very nice to us as she examined our picnic table and bears are commonplace in yosemite grounds, so, just pick a different spot and you'll be fine. Lastly, the site is not in the middle of the meadows or the valley, so if you are after Yosemite postcard views you'll have quite a drive. This place is more for the person seeking a really good hike up some great peaks (We were doing Mt. Conness - beautiful and a five minute drive) , someone who has already seen the Half-dome and who just wants a real Yosemite nature experience without large crowds of tourists. Enjoy! P.s. the site can be easy to miss in the dark. If you are driving from Yosemite and pass an Inyo forest ranger station, go back two miles ...you'll be right at the turnout for the site.

The road down is paved so fine for most vehicles though it is windy and probably difficult for some camper vehicles. Our park ranger on site was a volunteer named Jim who was the absolute BEST. Personable, knowledgeable, interactive, and kept things in order in the friendliest way. No showers, well maintained bathrooms. No water sources (sinks or spigot) so you need to bring all your own water. Trails from the site including an 8 mile one to El Capitain. About a 40 min drive to the valley or 1 hour to Hetch Hetchy. You still need to pay the park entrance fee ($35 or use your parks pass) You're fairly close to noghbors so be prepared for some noise.

The distance from this campsite is pretty far from the main entrance to Yosemite. The drive itself from the gate is about 10-15 minutes, and if you get stuck behind a slow car, you can pretty much double that driving time. The actual camping site sizes are large with a ton of parking spaces and enough space to really spread out. There is also enough space between the campsites so that you don't have to worry about loud neighbors. While everything sounds all good - this campsite lacks alot of trees for shade in the camp sites. In the morning when you have the sun blazing down on your face, it's worse after a night drinking by the fire. You just wake up hot and sweaty - it's not the bizz; it's quite miserable...waking up hot and sweaty. Let's talk bathrooms, because that's really what is important when it comes to being away from home and being clean. So this campsite has OUTHOUSES, yes you read that right! Basically a small outhouse with a huge hole in the ground for number 1 and number 2. These outhouses smell, they are infested with flies ... did I say them smell? They are no running showers, so be sure to pack a lot of baby wipes and anti-bacterial cleaning supplies. We saw a couple baby bears during our stay here so be sure to use the bear cabins for your foods. Everything needs to be locked in so it doesn't attract the bears.

The campsites are on…read morethe smaller side but have everything you'd expect: bear box, fire pit, parking spot, and an elevated platform for your tent. The campsites are all situated conveniently close to the pit toilets that seem to be cleaned daily (around 3-4 AM). Near the pit toilets are the trash cans and potable water on tap. The potable water was notably crisp as it comes straight from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir. This campsite is a bit far from Yosemite Valley but if you're looking for relative peace and quiet and don't mind the drive, or you plan on doing hiking around the Hetch Hetchy area, I would recommend Dimond O.

A great launching point for walking around everywhere. Check-in was easy and we got our assigned campsite #34. We had 3 other campers on our site with us that showed up later in the day. The view of the gorge walls was beautiful from our site. The bathroom amenities are great here too. Also there were a lot of practicing rock climbers on the nearby rocks. I will definitely be staying here again.

Aspen trees for miles…read more I always make a point to stop here just to witness the Aspens changing color, a breathtaking transformation that typically peaks in late October. It's absolutely worth the short detour. Located approximately 20 mins from Yosemite's entrance at Tioga Pass. These golden groves are located just before the entrance to the campground. While I'm not much of a camper myself, I did stroll through the site to get a feel for it just incase I ever change and become a camper. It's serene, quiet, and beautifully nestled alongside Lee Vining Creek. The area is shaded by trees and offers amenities like restrooms and picnic tables. If camping is your thing, I recommend checking out their website for more details. Even if you're not into camping, catching the Aspens in their autumn glory should be on your list if you're in the area between late October and early November.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon without a reservation, and began to mildly panic one we learned most of the sites had already been taken. Luckily we came across some super friendly Aspen Campground regulars, who invited us to share their double site which just happened to be situated in a prime spot right next to the beautifully bustling river - SCORE! The Big draw to Aspen is hands down the fishing. It just so happened that right before we arrived the local hatchery dropped a load of fresh trouts, ready to be hooked! This was my first time fishing, and I was able to catch (and Cook) my very first fish! If you like to fish and you like to camp, going to Aspen is a no brainer. The trees are also large and plentiful, so if you come, don't forget to pack your hammock!

Camped for a night from Tues - Weds and had a blast. We were in site #3, which was close to the…read morerestroom and the sink but not close enough where it smells. People were respectful of the 10pm lights out so by the tine we went to bed there weren't any foot traffic -- there really wasn't much at all in the day either. We were able to make a reservation but when we got there at 12pm there were plenty of spots around (we did go middle of the week though.) There's fire-pits and a grill at each site. For #3, one 3-4 tent and a 1-2 person one fit. A picnic bench and a bear locker for each site too. The creek was a quick walk away and fun to sit in the edge and watch the water. Bit too cold for end of April to go in though.
