I'm surprised to read the negative reviews as we've always loved Young's Cafe. Although I prefer to not look my dinner in the eye, the whole fried striped bass is my 86 year old father's favorite dish, and the accompanying sauce is delicious. How did this place get 4 stars? They don't have Pho Dac Biet on the menu?! Every pho place has Pho Dac Biet! And when they give you a spoon for the pho, it's not a soup spoon. It's just a big spoon. No place in the spoon for the soup. I also got wooden chopsticks. I hate wooden chopsticks. So small and skinny. They cramp my hand. Also $7.95 is a bit pricey. Having grown up in Fort Collins and still having family/friends there, I've been patronizing Young's since the late 80s. Yep, I'm old! But it also proves that I've had great taste for years. Young's has been voted "best of" for many, many years and there's a good reason. The food is consistently delicious. The atmosphere is pleasing. And the service is always good. My favorite dish here is the Velvet Shrimp. It's shrimp in a creamy, mayo-like sauce served with peanuts and lettuce/cabbage. I'm not the kind of person that likes mayo on everything, but for some reason this dish just works so well and is absolutely fabulous. And, it even reheats well, which is not always the case for a creamy sauce. It's hard for me to stray from my favorite since I live in Denver and don't come here that often, but the other dishes I've tried over the years have all been delicious. And, it's worth getting an appetizer - yummy dumplings, shrimp wrapped in bacon, whatever. I seriously don't think they can make a bad dish here. And, there's a huge bin of fortune cookies by the door as you leave - you get to help yourself and pick the one you want. read more

I was lost on a street behind a car dealership when we found this great looking restaurant. Canopy in front is a nice touch. It was a stormy Tuesday early afternoon, so we got seated right away. What great atmosphere, and friendly people. The waiter was very prompt and accommodating. This is a Vietnamese food menu, not Chinese, so it was not a 14 page menu. Choices were easy to make, it had lots of photos, and the waiter was very helpful. We had the Colorado Mule and Lunazul Margarita. They were very well mixed and tart. My wife chose the Seafood Curry and I had the Basil Tilapia. That was excellent fish, and more than enough filets. The Curry Seafood had the hot chile warning on the menu, but it was in now way too hot, but tasty indeed. I recommend the effort to find this place and feast. read more

To be honest, I did not have high expectations of Young's being that on my entire trip to Colorado, I could count the Asian people I encountered on one hand, with that being said, the food here was surprisingly legit! I got the chicken lemongrass soup, and my fiance got the seafood version. Both bowls came packed with meat/seafood and noodles. Typically I can finish a bowl of soup without any problems, but with my bowl, there was so much juicy chicken in there I could barely finish! My only complaint is that the bean sprouts weren't the freshest, but I'm not a huge fan of those anyway. My conclusion? If I'm ever in this hood again, we'll be sure to stop by. read more

Great and affordable Vietnamese food! They have lunch specials that offer fried rice, a spring roll, and an entree for around $8. They also have rice paper wrap meals, where they provide you with all of the ingredients (vegetables, your choice of meat or tofu, crushed peanuts, sauces) to wrap yourself. NOT to be confused with YUNG'S chinese restaurant (yes, confusing... there are also two "Matadors" in town...). This YOUNG'S CAFE is Vietnamese food and is the BEST (non-sushi) ASIAN FOOD RESTAURANT in Fort Collins! I usually go for lunch and I go with the Super Shrimp Rice Noodle Bowl but I get Crystal Rolls (instead of Spring Rolls) and NO SOUP BC IT HAS CHICKEN STOCK. The peanut sauce they give you w the Crystal Rolls is also great on the noodles but what you really want to ask the kitchen for is a special little bowl of their CHILI OIL. It will come in a little bowl w a little spoon and you'll want to put it on everything. Also, I don't do soy anymore but when I did, the tofu in their Grilled Tofu Noodle Bowl was the BEST TOFU in town imo. Ooh go for Jasmine Green Tea too. And I can't vouch myself but every meat eater I know swears that they have the BEST SESAME CHICKEN in town. It sure smells like it. The inside is decent and clean but a furniture upgrade would not hurt. The only drawback to this place is the parking lot which appears to be the narrowest spaces you can find in Fort Collins (ps good luck finding one around noon!). Decent Vietnamese place near CSU. Went with my family and family friends for lunch. I had a lemongrass chicken soup after reading through yelp recommendations. The soup was flavorful, tangy and spicy with a strong hint of lemongrass. There were generous pieces of white meat chicken floating around as well as pho noodles. However, the soup was fairly uniform, and I would have liked some variation in the form of fresh veggies. I got sick of the flavor profile pretty quickly. I wish I had tried the pho instead, which another person in our party got. We also got some appetizers to share, Vietnamese spring rolls and crunchy rolls. Loved the crunchy rolls, but the spring rolls were mostly skin and could have used more filling. The staff was friendly and the service was pretty fast. I know it says so on the menu, which is so bizarre, but I thought they would wrap it for you for take out. Haha. They did it. It is so silly that people will pay to wrap their own spring rolls. Vietnamese born and Biggest-Little-Saigon-in-America-raised, this place is okay. It's a hair above mediocre and very much overpriced. In fact, it's not even real Vietnamese food. The cooks are all Chinese and so the dishes are prepared using Chinese techniques, therefore none of the dishes are light and bright like how Vietnamese food is supposed to taste. More accurately described as Chinese-Vietnamese food. (Kinda like the difference between real Italian pizza and Domino's.) Good for fake Asian food like sesame chicken and others. Young's will satisfy your cravings for "Asian/Vietnamese" food very much like how Olive Garden would satisfy your cravings for "Mediterranean/Italian". If you're looking for that sort of thing, go for it, but don't come here expecting authenticity. It is, however, a half-way decent spot for authentic Chinese food. Their soups (Pho, Lemongrass, etc) are just not good and you should generally avoid them. This is due to the fact that many of their soups, and I would know from seeing my parents make them as a child and now making them myself, all require a fair amount of simmering to draw out the flavors. And it's obvious they don't because it is not their specialty. I do like the luc lac steak and crispy noodles the most, but again, both are pretty overpriced and don't taste authentic. This is the second best Asian restaurant in town, the best being Aloha Coffee & Grill. Cafe de Bangkok has been demoted due to its head chef leaving and taking her skills with her to Florida. By far, though, this is the "best" "Vietnamese" food in town (very low bar). If you want some real, delicious Viet food, get your ass down to Denver's Pho Duy (no relation to pretty mediocre one here in town ran by Koreans). Vietnamese-Americans in Colorado generally agree that Pho Duy on Federal is the best in the state. If you like spicy, go to Thuan Viet and get everything BUT the Pho (I recommend the Bun Bo Hue & Mit Vit Tim). At both Pho Duy (Federal) and Thuan Viet, you'll get bigger portions for $5 cheaper than at Young's and they actually taste good. If you want Vietnamese food that goes beyond noodle soup, the consensus is that New Saigon is the best as it is highly polished. Viet's Restaurant is a distant second, but it does outshine every other "homestyle" Vietnamese restaurant. Avoid Saigon Basil. These places have large plates for sharing and eating "family-style". Like tapas, but not stupid and you don't get charged for sharing. Bring a few friends with you. read more

When I was in my early 20's, I ordered Young's take out so much that they knew my order and name just by the sound of my voice on the phone! Those days of spending all of my disposable income on one restaurant only are long gone, but Young's still delivers consistant greatness! I've gone through phases of food and everything I have ordered is fantastic. The sesame chicken (or tofu or veggies) is always good along with the Black Pepper preparation (I usually get the tofu). My current love is the grilled tofu super bowl with steamed veggies and spring rolls. The price is right (less than $10) and I always leave really full. The tofu is grilled with a fantastic sauce (it's the same sauce on the pork which is also really good) and the edges get a little charred crispy which I totally enjoy! The veggie spring rolls are crisp and the inside is really well seasoned. And the crystal rolls must not go unmentioned either. My friends and I just recently went and felt that our meal would not be complete without an order, ok two, of the crystal rolls. The peanut sauce is divine and I would eat it with a spoon! I ate here with my husband while we were in town for a graduation. We came here based on the recommendation of my brother-in-law and the many positive reviews of fellow Yelpers. Big mistake. We couldn't figure out why people like this place so much. We didn't think there was anything special about this place. We split an order of dumplings which we could immediately tell were frozen and not homemade. They tasted exactly like the ones I buy at the grocery store when I'm feeling rushed and don't have time to make them from scratch. They were bland and tasteless. And the dipping sauce tasted like maybe it was soy sauce mixed with something else; not the sweet and yummy dumpling sauce we're accustomed to eating our dumplings with at better restaurants. For our entree, we split a stir fry dish called Hot and Spicy which we ordered with chicken. It came with mixed vegetables. It wasn't spicy at all and the chicken was a little tough. It was rather bland. Seriously, this isn't good Chinese food. I've had better fast food Chinese. I guess I'm spoiled living in Des Moines where there are so many great Asian restaurants. I love this restaurant and can count on consistently good food. Not the case on this visit for lunch. The hot and sour soup (my favorite) was lukewarm at best. My go to dish, pork in garlic sauce was awful! The pork was like shoe leather and the sauce was watery and completely tasteless. Our server dropped off the food and never returned except to drop off the bill. No one ever asked about the food or our visit. Is this place under new management? Came here for a lunch date with a coworker on her recommendation. Overall, it was good, but I wouldn't say stellar, at least for me. I may return, but I don't know that I would make a trip out of my way to come here again. The wraps my friend had were the best option - tons of food and good. My lunch special choice was ok, although there was nothing that stood out for me. The decor is old school and the service was decent. Parking is in a shared lot and was difficult to get during lunch, but they are right next to the Max so that may be a good option for getting to lunch without dealing with driving. read more

Since I moved out to the Midwest from the East Coast, I'm always in search of restaurants that serve food reminiscent of my childhood. I was previously living in Wyoming where there was no Vietnamese restaurants, and have found a few that I enjoy down in Denver. However, sometimes I don't feel like driving quite a bit of ways to get bun or pho, ya know? I went to lunch at Young's Cafe based on a colleague's recommendation of it being the best in town. I was immediately seated after walking in, and attended to by my server. I order summer rolls for appetizer and the Super Shrimp Bowl for the entree. The rolls came out within five minutes I placed my order. Thanks goodness, this girl was STARVING. The summer rolls were meh for me. The sauce, which I typically enjoy if done right, was just too sweet for my liking. I hated the sauce so much I just avoided using it while I finished my rolls :-( Not too long after, to my surprise my order came with a hot and sour soup. I'm usually very leery when I go to get Asian food and it comes with hot and sour soup, egg roll, or crab rangoon. I get it, more bang for the buck, but for me this is typically an indication of the clientele they are catering to. And I'm not a fan of any of these things. I tried the soup, and yep that didn't do it for me either. My Super Shrimp Bowl came and I requested for chili oil. I don't know how many times I went to an Asian restaurant that typically caters to Caucasian customers and request for chili oil only for the server to return with Sriracha -_-. No. So when my server returned with actual chili oil, I was delighted. Brownie points to Young's for the chili oil!!! The bowl was decent. Nothing too spectacular, but it delivered and satisfied my craving. Overall, the service was excellent. Young's definitely does not cater to those who grew up on traditional Vietnamese fare. Wow, what a great place. The staff was pleasant, the food looked and tasted great, also I thought the prices were reasonable. We were a party of 7, so we had the House Platter to start. It comes with rice paper wrappers, rice noodles, a big plate of veg, and a couple of dipping sauces, as well as the tray of food listed on the menu. It was so tasty and there was plenty for everyone to have something (even the person in our party with a gluten allergy). I also ordered a bowl of traditional Pho soup with thin beef slices. I could've eaten multiple bowls of this soup. I would highly recommend it. My wife had the curry chicken bowl, which she was very enamored with as well. All around a great meal and a great place. Today Hubsy and I went to lunch at Young's because we were craving some Asian food. The parking lot can be a little crowded depending on the time of day, but we found a spot fairly easily. We were seated quickly and our service was kind and efficient. I was super thirsty and she was nice enough to come by to fill my glass more than once. A word of caution for vegetarians: soups are made with chicken broth and if you don't ask for a vegetarian spring roll, you'll probably end up with pork. (I cheated because the hot and sour soup sounded so spectacular) I ordered the sesame tofu with a vegetable spring roll. I needed to let my spring roll cool off because it came out piping hot (which I *definitely* appreciated. Nothing's worse than a cold spring roll). The sesame tofu was perfect. Saucy, crispy on the outside, and silky and delicious on the inside. The spring roll was delightful! For three people, our lunch combos totaled about $30 which was pretty reasonable! read more

I don't know about this, I for sure can't trust the yelp majority anymore. I guess if this is all you have ever known Vietnamese to be then ....ok? But if you've ever really dived into Vietnamese perhaps in a place a bit more diverse you would knowww. Like your taste buds would sing and rejoice, your head would probably explode too. Maybe they have a secret menu for those who want authentic but their current menu consists of mainly asian-ish dishes. A mix of heavy Chinese, Thai and a small portion of Vietnamese (psssst... Vietnamese isn't just pho) and I was disappointed by all the reviewers who said this is their favorite "asian" restaurant as if it's all one thing, Vietnamese is completely different from Chinese, Japanese, thaï or any other eastern culture. It's not one homogeneous "asian" palate which is what this restaurant struck me as. Homogeneous. I wished they focused more on Vietnamese not only in the variety but also the quality. It's also not helping that this is FOCO's highest rated Vietnamese restaurant that's not actually a Vietnamese restaurant.... I need a minute. Ok, deep breaths, It's not the restaurants fault for probably just trying to adapt to the area and I don't blame them, or as one other reviewer speculated that the chefs prime influence is Chinese. However as far as the food goes for a Vietnamese restaurant, their noodle bowl menu was a tiny bleep on the menu under traditional dishes. It's so small I'm surprised I noticed it, usually in most restaurants it a half or a full page. I've never been to a place that didn't serve beef just pork & chicken even though they serve beef in the other stir fry entrees. It looked pretty basic, didn't show that it came with the full array of typical ingredients & veggies. Besides the pho the rest was all Chinese & stir fry type dishes like "tropical dish" & "velvet shrimp". You may spot a few Vietnamese dishes among them. The spring rolls weren't even a bit crispy, just super soggy, greasy, and didn't come with basil, mint, or any of the fresh herbs you see in Vietnamese cooking. Our entrees were below average with too much corn starch texture in the green beans, and basic non-discript sweet sour sauces. Overall I clearly didn't see what others have, and I was really wanting Vietnamese as I haven't had it since moving further north so it was extra disappointing.
