It was a quiet Wednesday night and we had one dining room practically to ourselves. Our Chinese friends ordered the "surprise menu" on behalf of the whole group, and round after round of the most spectacular Chinese food I've ever had in my life magically appeared - served "family style". Our servers seemed a little perplexed at times, and we would have ordered more drinks had they been a bit more present, but overall the experience was so positive I can't stop raving about it. I barely noticed the decor, music, temperature, lighting, etc - to which I'm normally pretty sensitive - so can't say much about that. Stomach-capacity permitting, I at least sampled every one of the many dishes that came our way, and all were excellent - even the fish, which I usually avoid. Our Chinese friends claimed we were getting all the best stuff due to their native, in-the-know cultural connection with the staff; I can't verify this, but also plan to return with the same friends just in case. Yum! Oh, and in some confusion & rush at the end we didn't think to request takeout containers, but there was a TON of food left over - even with such a large group. We all could have had lunch the next day, and all that for about 25 Euro per person, including beer and tip. Really can't speak highly enough about this place.

I would not recommend this place. While the atmosphere is nice and quiet, the hargow (shrimp…read moredumplings) were terrible. They were mushy and a bad consistency. The chicken in the stone pot was a good texture, spicy, and had a lot of good veggies, but I did not care for the sauce. The chicken pineapple my nephew had was fried and he liked it. The egg roll was just okay. Service was fine, atmosphere good.

If you arrive in Munich, especially during Oktoberfest, in search of Weissbier, Pilsner, Dunkel,…read moreKölsch, Bock, you should round out the food you pair with your brew and have some amazing noodles at Max's. The only reason we had lunch at this spot was a table could only be had after a 40 minute wait on the curb. Feet almost never lie, especially when what drives those feet is hunger and a sharp, discerning taste. When it comes to this variety of noodles, I've spent years living in Asia and Max's brought be back to one of my favorite hawker centers. They make the noodles right in front of you. The broth, the beef, the spice.... perfection. Just for fun, I added a Fanta to my meal and then begged for another hit of noodles, which they will do, if you ate the type of person to finish them before consuming the broth, which is the correct way to eat Chinese noodles.

Max' is one of those few super efficiently run seated places where you don't need to feel obliged to tip or even order a drink, which makes the bill quite cheap by Munich standards. The beef soup ... is thin, consisting mostly of cheap noodles and watery broth that you need to make flavorable with the chili on your table. It's a weird niche they found here ... maybe their soupless noodle dishes are more savory, but I doubt I'll be back for more, and definitely won't wait for a spot.
