The hostess staff were incredible and very welcoming. However, our server was a bit inattentive throughout the meal. Refills, to-go boxes, and the check all took a while longer than expected. For food, we ordered the Café Borgía, Chilaquiles with egg and chicken, the Matagorda Omelet with spinach, and the Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes with strawberries and blueberries. Updates of Texan eateries I like (2 of 2) Yummie's is one South Padre Island restaurant I really like, and if you spend some time here, you may wind up trying most of them, including some across the water in Port Isabel. For starters, Yummie's has a great feel about it - bright, spacious, and slightly nautical. They do a breakfast and lunch business, a business model a good number of local eateries share with them. While I can't vouch for their breakfasts and since I like lunch food more, their lunch menu is fairly vast. With all this being said, I wandered in here the last time on South Padre Island knowing I'd find a lunch platter to my liking. I would expect that to be a bountiful sandwich and that's what I've enjoyed on both visits. In my first visit here, I ordered a slice of the organic red grapefruit pie. It was a feast for the senses. On the last visit to Yummie's, this unique pie was not available. I believe it would have been in season. The server wasn't exactly clear, but said it had something to do with more recent menu planning. I was disappointed. It's that dessert that brought me to Yummie's the first time I visited and it's that item that brought me back. Look, I'm not a granola, and neither are most Texans and "Winter Texans" given that they sell towels and t-shirts with pit bulls on them across the street, which means that you can skip the organic part of the equation if it makes it easier for you to procure red grapefruits for you to deliver on this bodacious pie. The sandwiches and lunch platters at Yummie's are generously sized. I've gotten the standard potato chips to round out my sandwiches. Maybe I didn't see an option, but it would be nice if regular fries or something similar was offered for a reasonable upcharge. Since potato chips already have enough oils and fat, one might as well push the envelope that extra mile with another starch that tastes even better. I recommend it highly, but, for my wants and needs, will look at the most current menu or call beforehand prior to going in to eat. Another restaurant recommended by a friend which has good breakfast and coffee. We only got the breakfast and were seated right away but we went when it is not busy season. Other times, there may be a wait. I ordered the breakfast platter and wanted fried eggs or eggs over hard. I don't like the eggs runny and not everyone can get the eggs done right. This place did. Everything was yummy including the French toast. I will definitely return and try the pancakes the next time. My only recommendation is that the servers should demonstrate a more friendly vibe. Our server wasn't rude, but she had a lot of tables and in a hurry so it seemed we were rushed. I'm not sure if they are expected to clear out the tables quickly or what. On our visit to SPI, we read that Yummies was a great place to go to and a friend who knows the area and was there also agreed. We went there on our final day at lunchtime. It was bustling and there was inside seating and outside seating. One thing that I noticed immediately that it was spic and span clean. I ordered breakfast, which included a slice of French toast. We were in town for 2 days and we ate her both days! If you have a small party you will be sat much quicker, first day we walked right in, I think we waited 10 minutes to be seated the 2nd day. First of all, the coffee is absolutely amazing we tried 4 different coffee drinks, and each was special in its own way, sweet, lots of coffee flavor and just pretty to look at! The service was amazing; we were well looked after from the moment we sat down till we left but not bugged! The buttermilk pancakes are just fab, big, fluffy and yeah! the chicken and waffle was great chicken was crispy, tender and fried perfectly, while the waffle was crispy, soft and light! My wife got the Caprese BLT it was huge full of cheese maters and bacon! It also came with a big side of fries that were cooked to perfection! First time we've been to Yummies and it was great. We ran the Fools Run and was fine by 8:45 am. We then went and got into line for breakfast. Ur wat was estimated to be 20-25 mins. After 15 mins we had a table available and elected to sit outside. We had a bottle of champagne for mimosas with 2 juice mixers. Prickly pear and OJ! Both were really good! Hats off to one of the most personable and hospitable humans on the island. His food recommendations were 10/10, if you can sit in his section you're in for a real treat. After pickle balling in the sun next door for 4+ hours, breakfast didn't always sound appealing to me. My go-to has become the Yummies Turkey Wrap: smoked turkey, avo, tomato, spinach, feta and sprouts. Perfect for any time of day, fresh tasting, and enough to fill the tank minus that starch heavy feel. Yummies feels like home, yes they stay busy in the AM but for good reason. Stop by early and drop your name if you just aren't down for the long wait time (ordering to go is also an option). Or an even better tip would be to play pickleball next door while you wait for your table (get some games in, decide when you want to eat, gauge the wait time and go from there).
