Basic breakfast with bacon and sourdough toast!
    Richard H.

Located in Downtown Santa Cruz, walking distance to the Kaiser Permanente arena. This is great family style breakfast and lunch spot, which has been serving the Santa Cruz community for over 40 years! Great portions , and delicious home cooked dishes. I highly recommend their basic breakfast: two eggs, choice of meats, country fried potatoes, and sourdough toast. Spacious seating area and friendly service.

I am a UCSC alumna, and Zachary's has always been a staple for me. I recently went back for a quick overnight trip with my best friend, and we had to stop by Zachary's for breakfast. The staff was very friendly, and we were seated quickly. I got the sourdough pancakes and the potatoes, and both were super yummy! These are genuinely some of my favorite pancakes ever. I'm still dreaming about them a few weeks later. My friend got the omelet, which was hearty and delicious. The prices are affordable, and I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Santa Cruz!

It's been 20+ years since I've been here and it's just as good as I remembered. I just love a good "diner" experience. If you want fancy coffee and crepes this is not the place. I ordered the Mike's Mess and it was just as I remembered, everything I love in a breakfast all mashed together and put on a plate. It's a lot of food so you better be hungry. My wife ordered pancakes and they were soft and delicious. Service was super quick and they have limited space but I never felt rushed. Great memory that didn't disappoint after 20+ years away.

    Pancake Breakfast with sausage patty

Can't go wrong with this place for breakfast or brunch! I got the Pancake Breakfast with a sausage patty and over easy eggs, which was delicious -- the pancakes have a nice yeasty/chewy texture to them, which I prefer over the super-fluffy kind (that tends to just become a big blob of paste in the mouth). My wife got the Breakfast Sandwich with avocado substituted for bacon, which was still pretty decadent. Coffee was nice and roasty. The restaurant has a busy and bustling atmosphere, which is nice for breakfast -- gets your energy going for the day. Service was quick and friendly. The place can get pretty crowded, so be prepared for a wait!

Love this place. I've been ~5 times now and have never been disappointed. Inside and outside seatings are good options. Not only is the food always absolutely delicious but you can also buy loafs of bread they make. They servers are always hustling and bustling but make the effort to be kind and considerate. You feel like you can slow down here and enjoy life's moments. I'll absolutely go back again.

Food: huge portions! Jalepeno cornbread and mikes mess were good though next time will def get a junior size of that. Service: waited about 10 min to be seated. Attentive prompt service Ambiance: shady outdoor seating. Busy area!

Fun and lively breakfast/brunch spot. HUGE portions! Stopped in for a quick bite. We signed in and were seated promptly. I enjoyed a BLTA with home style potatoes. Hubs enjoyed tuna melt and potato salad. Def will return. Not sure why it took me so long to check out this place!

Such delicious food! My son and I split the breakfast burger and French toast. I had the tangerine mimosa. Fresh squeezed tangerine juice! The service was friendly and fast. Definitely recommend!

Great little place in downtown Santa Cruz. The menu is very cool with lots of interesting choices that are not just run of the mill breakfast items. My daughter ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was really good. It came on some amazing bread which was homemade. I got the old fashioned, which was a mix between eggs Benedict and biscuit and gravy. The potatoes were excellent- possibly the best we've ever had and the portions were big. My wife got the simple breakfast and they substituted fruit for bread for no charge. All the servers and people working there were very nice. We got there at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday and got seated quickly, but when we left at 8:30, there was a line. definitely worth checking out.

Haven't been here in a long time. The sourdough pancakes and sourdough waffle were great! I'm a waffle guy, the crunch makes them superior, however both were great, and the sausage links were plump, plentiful, and tasty. Can't wait till next time!

Zach to the Future You know, despite the lies Yelp tells, I really don't think breakfast is my #1 most reviewed category. I don't feel we even go out to breakfast that much, but evidently, the proof is in the pudding. =/ For me these days, in order to go out to breakfast, it has to offer something special beyond the usual Omelette du fromage, benedicts, and pancakes. Like take for example, Zachary's. They've got longevity (ca. 1985), an interesting menu with unique items, and they bake their own bread and baked goods! How can any self-respecting foodie say no to this place. Well. I have to say it was everything we expected and then some. Hands down my favorite breakfast in the past I don't know how many years. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the housemade bread goodies (e.g., muffin, coffee cake, bread) were all fantastic, and the service was superlative. If you top all that with very reasonable prices then you've got yourself a winner. 'Nuff said.

Food was delicious served hot and quick. Hostess greeted you with a smile and waiter was helpful and explained the menu service over all was great. Lots of places to sit ambiance you're over all American breakfast spot.

I had the yummy Tagliatelle w/ Meatballs; my wife enjoyed the Prime Rib w/ Mashed Potatoes and Creamed Spinach, while my sons wolfed down the Shrimp Scampi. Unlike my last visit, the server and busser were both friendly and attentive, which made for a refreshing reboot of our Shadowbrook experience. I look forward to going back now that there are new menu options to explore.

As a consolation, he mailed me a $125 coupon and asked us to call ahead so they could "properly prepare" for our visit. My girlfriend and I decided against giving them advance notice. We didn't want to risk "special treatment" so we returned unannounced on a Saturday lunchtime in May. The 2nd go-around didn't go any better. We were again greeted by disengaged, visibly checked-out staff, and after a round of grunted responses, we were seated in the bar area. The menu itself was a problem: we were told 90% of it wasn't available at lunch, and half of the remaining 10% wasn't available until 2 PM. The food was a repeat of April's disappointment. The clam chowder arrived cold, and no hot food was available at all. Service remained slow and inattentive, and the staff couldn't even process their own gift card. Shadowbrook is a poorly run restaurant with substandard food and service to match. If you're looking for a special-occasion meal in the Bay Area, look elsewhere. This place needs a serious overhaul in the kitchen and on the floor.

We were hunting for a solid breakfast spot and honestly weren't sure from the outside. But the moment we walked in to a warm welcome and were seated right away, we knew we'd picked the right place. My grandson -- who can be a bit high‑energy -- was treated like a little gentleman. Seeing him enjoy himself let me actually relax and enjoy my own breakfast: a massive plate of French toast so good I couldn't even finish it. Linda's Sea Breeze Café is the kind of place that wins you over fast. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great start to their day.

We got there about 10 am and had a bit of a wait with people continuously arriving so it's clearly popular. You write your name down and request inside or out or first available. It was a bit chilly so we opted for inside. We were seated after about 20 minutes. It's pretty small inside so the addition of the picnic tables outside is a plus. We all ordered different items, sausage and eggs, bacon and eggs and blueberry pancakes. The egg breakfasts came with a side of either toast, a pumpkin muffin or a cinnamon roll. We ordered a muffin and a roll. The food arrived fairly quickly which was good because after a 2 hour drive we were ready to grub. The egg breakfasts were pretty average in taste and portion. The blueberry pancakes however were good a good size and came with 3. I did think the pumpkin muffin was fire and my bf said the cinnamon roll was excellent so maybe it's their baked goods that are part of what makes this place so popular? I didn't think the amount of food we got was that much of a value as it was a $60 breakfast. Other downsides for me was the parking situation which is common in SC. We found a spot about 2 blocks away. Also, the bathroom is outside and in dire need of a makeover. Lastly, they don't take cards. It's cash or check only. WTH? I haven't seen a restaurant take checks since I was a kid so that's been a minute, lol. Overall I can't really see myself returning other than to get the pumpkin muffin or cinnamon roll. Maybe I just need to try something different.

We came from San Francisco & spent the day at the boardwalk. It was dinner time & we didn't know where to eat & majority of places closed at 9pm. However, based off good reviews we found this place nearby. We weren't sure if they would allow us to dine in since we arrived pretty late around 8:40pm. Luckily, the waitresses didn't hesitate to seat our party of 6. (3 hungry kids & 3 adults) We ordered the: -Garlic New York Steak- medium rare & it was so good. Cooked perfectly & topped with roasted garlic. Mixed in the garlic herb butter with the mashed potatoes. It was delish! - Mac & cheese: we ordered a large & it was really yummy & enough for all of us to share. - Tiramisu: I was excited to order this and it did not disappoint. I'm always on the hunt for a good piece of tiramisu, as it's hard to find especially infused with rum. Not only was the flavor & texture perfect, it was paired with whip cream sprinkled with cocoa powder & strawberries. Such a tasty combination. Also, I'd like to give a special shout out to our waitress & chef for being so accommodating to us. They stayed open way after closing time & didnt rush us. For one of our entrees, as we cut the steak, we accidentally dropped 1/2 of it. Since it was our fault we weren't going to ask for another steak. However, when our waitress found out, she asked the chef to make another one. Surprisingly, they were very generous to give us an entire new plate. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will be sure to dine here again during our next visits!
