Mein Bubbe would PLOTZ (explode)!!!!! Just an embarrassment of a Jewish diner. While the former Ambli space has been brightened and renovated to look very much like an east shore market, the seating is less than comfortable. I guess the combo of poor food, bad service and uncomfortable seating is great for turning tables? I will put aside the TERRIBLE service and focus purely on the food. We ate at Zaidy's for breakfast. Many of the breakfast sandwiches are based on their in-house-made bagels. This is a failure! The bagels taste stale for "freshly made" and I find it very odd for a Jewish-themed joint to toss bacon into the sandwich (I personally love bacon, BTW). So setting aside the shanda (shame) bacon...with the cheese, there is an utter lack of seasoning. The breakfast sandwich came with home fried potatoes which were cooked nice and crisp but lacking any seasoning whatsoever. The latke grilled cheese looks appealing but is basically a greasy sponge filled with limp tomato and undercoooked cheese. And finally, the blintzes are an embarrassment to any self-respecting Jew. Zaddy's version are these small pockets that are under fried and more the size of a hamantaschen than a true blinze. I see no reason to rush back. Thought we would try Zaidy again, and what a disappointment. First, the waitress smelled so strongly of nicotine cigarettes. Going through chemo treatment, I had a very difficult time with her as our server. Second, when it came to paying for the order, we waited for over 10 minutes because our server was nowhere to be seen. We started to leave and pay at another counter, but the waitress rudely stopped us and told us that we had to pay through her. Furthermore, Zaidy's has now added 5% to each check for something called "Heart of House or something to that effect, in addition to sales tax. As a person who retired from the finance world, this clearly indicates that management is not paying staff a living hourly wage. Instead, they are charging customers an additional 5% to make it up. Having worked in the restaurant field for many years, I understand that food costs have increased significantly. These costs can vary from week to week. As the tariffs are a major cause of these costs, which have resulted from our current administration. As a small business, it's difficult to pass on the increase to customers. It's a no-win scenario. So, being retired and living on a fixed income, my wife and I can no longer afford to enjoy eating at Zaidy. read more

We're visiting Denver and ate here since we enjoyed it on our last visit. I guess times change; we had a bad experience this time. We came with our little grandkids so we knew it might be hard anyway. Service was slow and the kids were acting out because they were starving. When the food came, it just was not good. The roast beef was OK. My eggs were decent but the sautéed onions in the omelette had skins on them so I couldn't eat that. Potatoes were either undercooked, hot or raw - all in the same portion. Stopped in for breakfast with the kiddo Saturday morning. It wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately. Our sever was friendly and my coffee was always filled up. It seems like when I move all the cool stuff moves in. This is a great Jewish style deli they have here. It is super clean and has a very nice bakery/deli attached to the restaurant. Of course they offer the Denver staple Rosenberg bagels which are so great. Our waitress was very helpful and nice. I also tried the Rueben but with turkey. I had sufganiot (jelly-filled donuts that are a traditional dish for Chanukah) from Zaidy's Deli & Bakery. I'm not sure if they offer sufganiot throughout the year or if it's a seasonal thing since it's now December and Chanukah starts next week, but either way, the sufganiot were great and I'd definitely have them again. I have ordered from this place several times for an office lunch. Honestly, I wouldn't otherwise because their prices are so outrageous. I will say their food is delicious and the portions are large but not worth the price in my opinion. I have tried several things but my go to is the turkey club sandwich. Everyone here is so lovely. I stopped by just to grab a babka for Hanukkah and I was greeted by multiple people and served quickly. The babka was fantastic and the Dazbog coffee was delicious. ZAIDY'S gets 5 stars because I know it's damn good, Unfortunately, I did not get to have it today. I showed up at 3:45 PM and A woman comes out the front door and says, 'we close in 15 minutes, so you can come and have a quick drink, but that's it'. What is the rule of thumb on this? If I were to own a restaurant and I closed at 4 PM; I would say the last person walks in the door at 4 PM and the staff can deal with it. Then you're honoring that you're open till 4 PM, NOT till 3:30 PM or 3:45 PM. I'm really curious and would like some comments back. please feel free to comment away !!!!! read more

Best lox bagel I've had! Lox made on-site, on a crispy yet fluffy fresh baked bagel, with plenty of capers, red onion, freshest lettuce and tomato. A cheery atmosphere, clean setting, super fresh challah which we took home for Shabbat dinner. We then put in an order for Passover dishes based on the quality of what we tasted...and were really pleased with the outcome! We ordered a potato kugel and a carrot kugel, and both were unusually good; you could tell there was a homemade, made with love feel to both dishes, which were not too sweet, crispy and wholesome. The flourless chocolate cake for Passover was top notch--super chocolate flavor, rich and dense. Will definitely return with special orders knowing how well they make these catering orders! I was very excited to try this deli. As everyone who knows me I'm from Chicago and New York and really love deli food. I ordered a pastrami sandwich. I hate to say it. One of the worst sandwiches I've had. Had to send it back. Looks like they grill the pastrami which any great cook knows drys out pastrami. The sandwich was very thin.
