I always feel a bit awkward walking into a jewellery store. I feel the weight of expectation upon me, and there's nothing worse than a shop assistant with a sing song greeting, "Soooooo! Shopping for anything SPECIAL?" - as if I'm doing a recce for my dream engagement ring or something.
Blergh.
But happily, upon strolling into Zamel's - doing a recce for a friend's birthday present - the shop assistant was nothing but friendly and helpful. Not a hint of expectant sing song about her. Instead she helped me with all my many questions, and even took to writing me a list of prices to help me with my comparison shopping.
Perhaps it was some sort of reverse psychology at work, but whatever it was, you can consider me grateful. read more
