When in Prague treat yourself to some really good Thai food here! Mostly noodle dishes but so many to pick from! We decided on the rice noodles with tofu which was loaded with flavor and fresh vegetables! The glass noodle salad had shrimp and chicken with a delicious sauce and again lots of fresh vegetables and peanuts! We eat Thai food all over the world including Thailand and this food was a good as anywhere! Of course wash it down with a local tap beer! Enjoy, we sure did! read more

My first night in Prague, I was looking for a place to have dinner. I didn't yet know the city, and having been up for over 24 hours and barely eaten since I left Vancouver (see my review about Lufthansa), I went into the first restaurant that appealed to me, which was Zebra Express. Yup, while in Prague, the first type of cuisine I ate was Asian. You know you're from Vancouver when... I ordered a "Thai" curry, and while it was nothing special, it wasn't terrible, and it filled me up. Since I was pretty tired and hungry, I didn't spend too much time looking over the menu. But the website shows that in addition to Thai food, they offer sushi and dim sum, amongst other things. And not only do they offer dim sum, but they offer non-pork dim sum, which is a plus in my books. They also have free wi-fi (password needed). read more

OK....Dangerous territory! This is MY WHEELHOUSE. .. for those of you that don't understand American metaphors... I mean this is what I do...Thai food... Authentic Thai food. ..as in my own Thai TV show called "Farang Roo" or in English "The Foreigner Knows" in Thailand teaching Thai chefs how to cook...you got it...Thai food$ I have had enough difficulty in Thaitown Los Angeles the single largest population of Thai people outside of Thailand, yet it escapes me and boggles the imagination how unauthentic 99% of LA Thai restaurants are.. THERE ARE NO BELL PEPPERS IN THAILAND. ... That said, there are no indigenous Zebras in Thailand either but here in Prague (Czech Republic) that is the name of the best Thai food restaurant. Given location, and being Christmas Eve, I will score on a 'bell curve' taking into consideration Prague is probably not the best place to source lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, tamarind, Thai basil, etc However, I did see quality authentic Thai brands in the kitchen like Chakoah coconut milk (I recommend the creamier AROY-D Gata for cooking), Mae Ploy curry pastes, etc. The Tom Kha Gai at Zebra had all of the flavors but could have used more kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass, splash more tiparos and lime juice, but still one of the healthiest thing on the planet to eat, actually 2nd after Som Tom Green Papaya Salad which definitely registered on my spicy meter and would've love a little tamarind sauce, but good luck outside of Thailand. They do use BELL PEPPER (what part of Thailand do bell peppers grow?... THEY DON'T) So anything with the strong unique taste of bell peppers prevents you from knowing what authentic Thai cuisine would taste like. I will pass on comment for the Gaeng Deng Red Coconut Curry since I'm not sure it qualified as such. But my comments are unlikely to sway the local tourist trade from keeping the reservations and lines out the door at Zebra. My wife declared the chicken soup very good. (She has a head cold so this was the right stuff). Very favorable and fresh ingredients. Has a little crispy chopped pepper on top. The Chicken Pad Thai was my first ever. Had fresh herbs and sprouts in it. Chopped peanuts on the side to mix in. It had enough Chicken. Very good flavor. I was not expecting decent Thai in Prague, but here's to be being surprised. The phad thai and green curry were both perfectly acceptable Thai food if not the best I've ever had. The phad thai was very yummy, but phad thai is like pizza: good when it's bad and amazing when it's good. The green curry was actually spicy and the carry out looked like they didn't have enough sauce, but I found a bunch of it at the bottom of the rice. Green curry is harder to get right and this was surprisingly good. The thai fried rice wasn't anything to write home about, but was pretty generically appealing. The "dim sum" were actually just normal dumplings/gyoza, not what an American would think of as dim sum or even dim sum dumplings. The only last note was that while phad see eew was on the menu online, it wasn't something I could get them to take down over the phone and might not be on their menu at all anymore. read more

Let's just say, I ate here 3 times in 2 days. Zebra Express as well as the Zebra restaurant were the only legit Thai food restaurants that I've encountered during my 5 week trip in Europe. I was craving for spicy Asian flavors so bad, and they gave me just what I needed! They actually have Thai chefs in the kitchen preparing all the food, double thumbs up! I had the Bangkok noodles extra spicy all three times! It was very good! The flavors were exploding in my mouth. I also would recommend asking them for their sides of chili pepper condiments. Their pickled Thai peppers were the bomb, spicy and sour, just the way I like. I sprinkled those all over my noodles and it became a plate of heaven! I also tried their papaya salad, super tasty and refreshing! The service was great. They do charge extra for take-outs, not sure why? The rolls were amazing, and so were the chicken noodles. The lighting was very fancy I reckon, my table was very well lit and it made the meal more enjoyable. I put it as a strong point because I was really feeling a difference compared to other places. Obviously the food isn't very typical from Czech Republic but a nice pad Thai restaurant is always welcome. This is located not far inside the Old Town city wall, down the street from the main clock tower at the entrance to Old Town. It's got a decent selection of your standard Thai fare, with a few nods to other Asian selections as well. Note that your protein choices are generally limited to chicken, beef, or shrimp. I didn't notice any pork or mixed seafood options. I ordered the fried chicken wings as an appetizer, and they were delightfully crispy, though needed a bit of seasoning (it's served with a side of sweet and sour sauce, which was fine). I ordered the shrimp fried rice and hubs ordered pad woon sen (basically, stir fried rice noodles and mixed veggies). Both were good (not great), and I just wished for some fish sauce with Thai chilies to complement my dish. I'd asked the waitress if they had fish sauce, but she said they didn't. It wasn't till I was walking out the door at the end of dinner that I happened to notice their caddies of fish sauce and chilies all concentrated at the end of their front bar area. Oh well, gives me a reason to go back again next time we're in Prague. This place was OK, better than average, but didn't knock our socks off. Had a quick lunch today, with very well spiced Tom Kha Shrimp soup (with 3 small shrimp), very liquid Panang chicken curry, and an amazing sticky rice with mango. Service was quick and friendly for a European city, food was close to the best Thai chicken that i frequent in Florida, and the dessert was the absolute best one I've ever had. Bar none whatsoever. Ok, this restaurant is definitely worth to visit. I don´t know where to start :-) First of all location and inner enviroment. It´s in a centrum, perfectly placed in the Celetná street which goes from Powder Tower to Old Town Square. I felt really comfortable there. It´s nicely decorated and it feels very nice. Restaurant is like one big room where are not only tables and seats but also kitchen so you can watch how is your meal being prepared. I love that. Meals are delicious. You can clearly see that the cooks are from Thailand and they do it with love. I can honestly say that you can´t pick a wrong meal here,except if you don´t like spicy food and you order one :-) I also recommend a red tea...awesome. And the last but not least, the service. Smiley, helpful and very kind (which is kind a rare in a tourist´s centrum of Prague). And another plus is that you don´t have to wait for too long for a meal. Everything goes pretty fast, even if the restaurant is crowded so it´s perfect expecially for a lunch, but dinner is of course ok too. I know that I maybe used too many over positive words, but you know, we haven´t many good Thai restaurants here in Prague and this one is really really good. Best Thai food I've had in a long time. Gone try to go again before heading back to Geneva with not many good Thai restaurants. We went there for a yelp event, but I am still assuming the staff is always as friendly, smiling and helpful even if we came alone. The meals here were very good, spicy, flavorful and you can tell the cooks enjoy what they are doing. They all seemed authentic from Thailand and knew what they were talking about food wise and even taught us some words in Thai! By far the best food I've had my entire time here in Prague. Not just Asian food, I'm saying out of every cuisine I've tried here. Food was freshly prepared, all the ingredients were fresh, and unlike many other places the food was delivered hot not just luke warm. Although I can only speak for the green curry soup and the Phad kee Mao woon Sen I would still highly recommended this spot. Zebra Express is an oasis in Europe where Asian food or cuisines other than Czech, Italian or Tourist fare is hard to find. The dishes were freshly prepared with fairly authentic flavours. That day I had the Ped Phad Khing (Stir fried crispy duck) while my friend had the Phad Kra-Pao (Fried meat with garlic, chilli, green beans, onion, basil, served with jasmin rice and a fried egg on top. The Phad Kra-Pao was definitely worth ordering, the duck dish had a few strips of duck that were tough and chewy. The flavours for both dishes were good but the quality and quantity of the duck in my dish was certainly disappointing. Prices were reasonable. I definitely recommend this as a good alternative when one is tired of European fare. We had just finished a week in Germany and had had our fill of bread and wurst and schnitzel. read more

The meat was chopped into tiny pieces but still clearly of very poor quality, minimal vegetables in any of the dishes we ordered, and sauces were loaded with msg/salt but lacking in any complex flavors. Tasted like they are using cheap grocery-store spice mix packets, but without even using enough spice from the packets. Zebra Express is not spicy by US standards, but it is flavorful by Czech standards. Service was good, menu was easy to understand, and selection was quite good as well. I had Chicken Pad Thai, my go-to Thai food, and it was pretty good. Not the best, and could have done with more spice, but that is my preference. They advice me to go to the other Zebra, and after walking there with heavy rain, they didn't let us in either. I consider this very impolite and unprofessional from their side.
