This was disappointing for the expense of it. I think they're kidding themselves with a $20 eggs Benedict on muffins! The glass of orange juice cost $5.50 and it was a store bought version!! We had driven from Sydney that day and wanted a nice meal so we called into the restaurant for a meal. The meals were excellent even though the prices are on the high side of OK as the meals didn't have very little of anything extra other than the meat but the overall experience was spoiled by the side dishes not arriving on time as they came out just as we were taking the last few bites of our meals even though we had asked a few times what had happened. The server hadn't placed the order. They even wanted to give us the side dishes complementary but all too late. The servers should also learn how to pour a beer. read more

Zebu is located in a beautiful position on the Hastings River foreshore. The staff are always friendly, meals are beautiful and ambience soothing and enjoyable. The downside would be it can be a little pricey. read more

We turned up to Zebu on a whim as we'd already had a couple of drinks in the attached bar. The front of house staff very kindly fit the three of us us in to the schedule, apologizing that they couldn't give us a window seat. That was fine with us, and as it turned out the table we were given was absolutely fine. Firstly, the food. One of my dining companions and I had the bush pepper crusted 250g 100 day grain fed eye fillet (medium well & medium rare respectively). The other of our party ordering a rangers valley 300g scotch fillet (rare). Both of the bush pepper crusted steaks were cooked to perfection and bursting with taste along with the mash and green peppercorn jus. The rangers valley while quite good was unfortunately over-cooked to almost medium well done. The wine selection is adequate for the size of the restaurant and perfectly suited to the choices of food. Now to the reason they were given only three stars. There is absolutely no reason why, if you're shooting for a class of dining that your wait-staff should be allowed to work in blue denim jeans. It was obvious that the uniform was black clothing as that is what all the other staff wore. The one who didn't however stuck out like the proverbial. What made it worse is that this particular person showed absolutely no joy in their work, bringing the tone down whenever they were present. There also seemed to be no communication between wait-staff and front of house as, while exiting the restaurant, in front of other diners I was called back with the hail of "Excuse me guys, the bill!?" This was rude and inappropriate in the extreme. We had done what most other restaurants do and paid and completed the transaction (with tip) at the table. Zebu has wonderful food and a casual yet classy dining atmosphere. It has some things to work out with its staff and communication, however it's still worth your time and I'm sure it will improve. read more

We did the 5 course degustation. The oyster course was unappealing. The cuttlefish, duck and lamb were delicious. My far the best was the strawberry desert. The champagne in the sorbet was delicious. However, 2.5 hours for 5 small courses was far too long. On arrival they were that busy, they forgot my request for what citi wine was available. I had to ask three times to get this. What annoyed me was constantly hearing from the kitchen, "bar service" then "room service". To the point that when we heard "service" we were Giddy with excitement. In summary, great food, but far too slow on service and too busy with other food service areas to sufficiently service the restaurant. The wine pairings were perfect and extremely generous pours. We would not return due to the slow service. read more

This review is about the Grill. I have been to the bar and had pizza several times, it is great for that. I want to like the Grill more than I do. I want there to be more fine dining in Port Macquarie. But, they just are not quite there. It is non-congruent. As another reviewer mentioned, the service is casual in attitude and sometimes dress, and not particularly attentive. We were placed right near the very large pizza oven. My son smelled that and, as a teen boy would, wanted pizza. Yet, they would not serve him pizza being cooked right next to our table. I guess that was part of their attempt to be "fine dining." The server seemed to get pleasure in telling us this. The prices are set as if it is high end dining. Some of the food is quite good. Other meals seem like they think if they charge a lot and put a small portion of average food on an unusual plate with two asparagus spears that is fine dining. The fresh baked olive bread tasted rewarmed and the tampenade was just OK. For $7.50, it was very small and just wasn't worth it. My wife had a spatchcock that she would have enjoyed but gave much of it to my son. He ordered bacon wrapped chicken breast. Yet, he said that the chicken was bland, even with the bacon, and it was served as two medallions slightly larger than a 20 cent piece. He ate that without even feeling as though he had started. I had the rump of lamb. It was supposed to be spicy. There was no spice. It was just an average piece of lamb. None of us had the steaks and maybe that is what they excel in making. We will eat there again as the choices for this type of restaurant are limited in PM. I hope they can make some subtle customer oriented changes and become what they think they are. read more

When told a kitchen closes at 11pm you would expect at 10 o'clock you could order more food and drinks especially if you've had an appetizer. Well this is not the case at Zebu where you are promptly told the kitchen and the bar are closed without even the courtesy of a last drinks call. Having committed to a night at Zebu based on assurances of food and drinks til late we settled in only to be left high, dry and hungry at 10pm. Misleading clients like this is incredibly bad form, how hard is it to walk across the restaurant and let people know the whole place is shutting down? The prices were pretty ridiculous. I had a steak which was close to $50. Living in Sydney you expect to pay a bit of cash for a good meal which is fine if the value for money is good. I don't feel that $50+ for the quality and service we received was unjustified. Service was average at best and the ambience was non existent. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Seriously over rated. Cost $74 for 4 drinks and then after drinking a few rounds and telling us that the kitchen was open for hours to come they closed the kitchen early without telling us. Consequently we were too late to eat anywhere else and went home hungry. Extremely rude service when confronted about it. A terrible terrible way to treat guests who had spent hundreds of dollars there that day. Also extremely poor RSA. read more

I love the lighting, the location and the general idea of Zebu. But they truly fail to pull it off. The food is below average and has been that way for more than a year. It is overpriced. I hope they sit, review and revamp the kitchen, menu and set up. read more
