First, as others have written, the Tarte Flambe is excellent. The vibe in Binchstub is excellent too. It's just filled, intimate, and everyone is pleasant because they are enjoying good food and drink. Also, the service was awesome. I wish I had got the woman's name behind the bar but she even acknowledged wanting to make it a great experience for everyone there. Binchstub made my one night in Strasbourg even better. Noisy as anything at night! Since they run the building with heat full blast in winter, I felt stifled and had to open my window to get any air while putting up with street noise. Not comfortable. The room itself was small and tidy - oddly triangular shaped; it looked like a larger room that was cut up. The shower enclosed in frosted glass right next to the bed reminded me of CitizenM hotels' room. The bed was a bit hard as I find most European hotels having. Nice amount of (4) pillows. The front desk was mainly staffed by college-age interns who weren't helpful. They did not inform me of the afternoon treats in the lounge (which I learned about on the day before I left). I wasn't happy to have missed the complimentary tea/coffee and sweet baked treats. For a 4-star hotel charging about $400 USD per night due to the location near Place Kléber at Christmas market time, I was disappointed. It was not worth the high cost as the room space was too hot and small and the front desk staff failed to be informative or very helpful. They only had crepes to offer, so we kept going, but decided we would return later for after-dinner drinks and dessert crepes. We came back at 21:40 (they close at 22:30) and took a seat outside. After several minutes of waiting for service, while other tables outside were cared for, I made eye contact with the server (who I believe is also the owner based on the interaction that follows) and asked if we could order. She responded by shaking her head and responding that she was only seating tables in the front of the restaurant, and no longer on the side, though other guests occupied tables in the same area. There were only tables that would accommodate two in the front while we were three patrons, so I politely explained that to her in German (which she and I both spoke very well indicating that there was no language barrier). She then told us to hold on so we remained seated where we were. After two minutes, she came out and said "So what do you want? You came and looked at my menu and left and now you are back and want something!?" I was completely shocked and my guests were mortified at this rude, aggressive, and unwelcoming greeting. I explained that when we had stopped in earlier, we liked the dessert offerings and were aware that they are closing at 22:30 but just wanted to come back for drinks and desserts, and would be able to be finished by then since we still had well over thirty minutes. She then proceeded to tell me that that wasn't good enough, she wouldn't serve us, and basically kicked us out of the table and chairs. Between the drinks and desserts, this rude and obnoxious business owner lost out on a minimum of a 50-60 euro tab. One of my guests absolutely wanted to have a crepe during our short stay in France, but this woman ruined that for her and left a terrible impression of French hospitality in general. In all my life, I was never treated so aggressively and rudely by someone. I wanted to share this review so that others know to avoid this place because being treated so poorly at a restaurant can mar your entire visit to Strasbourg.

The ambience deserves a little call out - heterogenous chairs, plates and tables. Old movie posters, a retro weighing scale, spoons, pans, cane baskets etc. hanging from the ceiling. Now for the food: for starters we had salads - mine, lentils mixed with small bacon bits on a bed of pea leaves. My companion's was a cold ratatouille (crumbled) and feta, also on pea leaves. Both filling and different and for only €2.20 each! For mains we got a vegetarian quiche with goats cheese - the right size, perfectly balanced (not too 'eggy' as is sometimes the case), and a chicken leg with cous cous. The leg was roasted in a red pepper sauce, and the cous cous was delightfully spiced. We were spoken to in French (which we wanted to practice and were glad for it) and were not rushed at any point - service was really good with the two friendly-faced guys being attentive, neither overbearing nor negligent.
