1st of all the service was excellent. Our waiters went above & beyond. The food was good but the sashimi appetizers were unconventional... the Tai Ume was waaay too sour for me... my hubby however, loved it. The Yuzu Hirame was too creamy & weird for me, but again, my hubby liked it. I grew up with boring plain sashimi so I guess my palate is old LOL. Chicken teri lunch was a good portion & my husband enjoyed his sashimi lunch. The one downside was the miso soup. Guys, if this is an upscale restaurant you gotta COOK your miso soup. As a Japanese raised in Japan I was shocked to get re-heated soup with cold tofu & instant seaweed. I mean, what? Come on. Let's COOK all the ingredients. And no "grow-in-the-water" seaweed. Let's get the real stuff.

was able to get a last minute reservation here for a weekend dinner and everything was so good! highly recommend getting the uni pasta off their special menu and trying some of their many rolls. the menu is very extensive so i'll definitely come back to try more!

Pricey, but very fresh and delicious. Almost everything we ordered was excellent and definitely high quality. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the service was extremely slow. It was a Sunday night on Ventura Blvd, so I understand it was busy, but service took way too long, refills on drinks, the food, asking how everything was, way longer than expected. Also, parking isn't great, it's street parking only, which can be a hassle.

Came here for date night! Zen Toro is more of a fusion Japanese sushi place that also does izakaya really well. We enjoyed trying multiple sashimi tasting platters as well as the grilled beef tongue skewers, lamb skewers, and spicy yellowtail crispy rice. Service was great since we were the only ones dining when it opened, and there were plenty of waitresses. Food came out relatively quickly, but for the same price point, I've had better in Studio City. This restaurant would add caviar as toppings, but it didn't really add much to the dishes. The highlight of the night for me was ironically the beef tongue which I ordered more of after my first order, and for my hubby, it was the lamb, even though this restaurant specializes in sushi lol. Great to have another local sushi restaurant in Sherman Oaks! Will be back!

Zen Toro is officially my new favorite sushi spot in LA. It's intimate and a cute spot for a date night or even a night out with friends. The staff were friendly and great service as well. You can make reservations through yelp, which I would recommend doing, especially on a weekend as it's quite an intimate space and it a popular place. We started off with the spicy tuna crispy rice, which was crispy and flavorful. We then had the Negi Taku roll which was my favorite roll of the night. The toro was so fresh and flavorful. If it was cheaper I would order way more of it. We also ordered three other rolls which were better in portion size and had a nice citrusy touch to them. Overall, everything was delicious and I can't wait to come back and try more items. I should note that it is slightly on the pricier end, so it's not an everyday sushi spot but, great for a nice treat once in a while.

Ambience--3/5the restaurant is clean and very simple but extremely LOUD Service--3/5our server was not the best, we had to flag him down to place our order; not attentive. When the check was dropped off they are all hovering over for the payment to clear your table. Food--3/5 definitely skip the zenviche, extremely tangy, can't taste the fish. The double G roll was great the other two rolls were average. It's a one time thing for me; but worth the try.

I almost don't want to submit a review so we can gate keep this place to ourselves. We wandered in randomly on a Friday night and will continue to come back any chance we get. The food, the staff, the amtosphere were all great. Truly some of the best sushi I've had. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing except for the crispy rice tuna because the rice was really hard but they where incredibly nice and replaced it. The device was attentive and fast and I loved how it was a calm place.

Amazing Fresh Sushi. All you sushi lovers will not regret! Entire staff working tremendously all the servers were great, smiling, joking, and loading up tables in a heartbeat. Well lit and extremely loud environment (Great for Kids). The sushi was very well prepared and presented. Must try the Baked Lobster Roll. Skip the Crispy Tempura Brussel Sprout.

Zen Toro Sushi Bar is an absolute standout and easily one of the best sushi bars in LA! The fish is incredibly fresh, and you can truly taste the quality in every single bite. Each roll and piece of nigiri is prepared with such care and precision--it's clear that freshness is a top priority here. The flavors are beautifully crafted, balanced, and intentional, allowing the fish to shine while still delivering bold, memorable combinations. Nothing feels overdone; every dish is thoughtfully composed and consistently delicious. From the quality of the food to the overall experience, Zen Toro delivers excellence across the board. A must-visit for any sushi lover, this place sets the bar high and keeps you coming back for more!

I will say that the reviews were good, however I was skeptical due to North Hollywood location and newly openly developed area. Regardless, we tried it. We were greeted and told to wait; totally fine, party of 3 on the waitlist seated ahead of us. Next, we sat down, listening to Drake, Kendrick and Kayne. After we were seated, we asked if we could share one hand roll set, which is something we regularly do at every other handroll restaurants. The waitress immediately explained that the hand roll sets were not meant to be shared and repeatedly asked us which specific rolls each of us would be eating. We were questioned about it more than once, making the interaction feel unnecessarily uncomfortable. A short time later, as J-Cole continued to play, another couple was seated next to us. They also asked to share a hand roll set. To my surprise, they were not given the same explanation, nor were they repeatedly asked to identify which rolls each person would be eating. Their request was simply accommodated. Interesting how minorities are treated here compared to others in this area. I cannot believe in 2026 how racism is very much alive, while black artists are playing overhead. I've spent thousands of dollars dining at restaurants throughout Los Angeles and have always believed that every customer deserves to be treated with the same level of respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I will never return to this racist establishment. I hope management takes customer service seriously and ensures that all guests are treated consistently and respectfully. Bottom line, I should have gone to Yunomi. Also, prices are too high.

Located on Ventura Boulevard, Sushi Tomoki is a small, intimate sushi restaurant with a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic and a relaxed atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. (The Infatuation) Since we were dining with our 22-month-old, we requested a table instead of sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was very accommodating. They even prepared a customized tamago sushi roll for our little one, which he absolutely enjoyed. The omakase was thoughtfully paced, with each piece served one at a time so we could fully appreciate every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece practically melted in our mouths. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients really stood out. The only piece that wasn't my favorite was the sushi topped with mint. It simply wasn't my personal preference, though I'm sure those who enjoy mint with savory dishes would appreciate it. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. They made my sister's birthday even more special by singing Happy Birthday and surprising her with complimentary sherbet and four pieces of green tea mochi--a thoughtful touch that ended the evening on a high note. Overall, Sushi Tomoki delivered a memorable omakase experience with outstanding sushi, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

We walked in at 6:40pm and got a nice welcome from Mediko. Without having a reservation, she sat us down immediately. Our server Meika approached us right away to take our order. We started off with a standard size of Garlic Edamame ($6.80), and then ordered few other cut rolls. Spicy Tuna Cut Roll--for 10 pieces ($14.80), Albacore Fried Onion Roll-- count of 12 for ($20.80), Zero Roll-- count of 12 for ($25.00), Rainbow Roll-- count of 12 for ($10.80). Everything was so LIGHT, FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! They also have hand rolls, and other types of cut rolls. They have street and metered parking. Before I forget, we ordered Crispy Rice Tuna that came in (2) pieces for (13.50). The minute I saw that, it made me laugh. Called our server and told her to take that back and remove it from the bill which she gladly did. I thought it was going to be an actual full course rolls. They also have dessert but we didn't order anything. Restaurant was very quaint, limited decor, very busy for Monday mid evening, and was very nice and clean. Total came out to be $95.70 including tax minus the tip. I'm sure they also have a bathroom, but we didn't end up using it. I will return, but not any time soon. They also don't have any Bento Box type of food. Very authentic place to go on a date, friends, family or even dine solo. They also have a Sushi Bar. Alcohol wise, only have beer, wine and sake along with 2 fridges full of cold drinks.. Thank you all very much!!

Seated in a rather interesting part of North Hollywood, the summer heat did not deter us from eating here, as the smell immediately brought my worries elsewhere. A vast majority of the food here was fantastic, and the only reason I was going to opt for 4 stars was the takoyaki had quite a tiny portion in the actual dough ball- despite the actual breading so soft and fluffy, it was like the most delightfully extravagant packaging for something that was a bit of a let down. Though, much to the credit of our waiter she understood and offered to swap it out for another appetizer, which probably deserves the vast majority of the praise here. The vegetarian dumplings we ordered were legitmately some of the best dumplings I've had period. From the vegan mayo to the best gentle heat I've ever had the experience I've eating. Just hot enough for a brief moment with delightful heat throughout. The chicken skewers we had and the calamari were solid and with a perfectly paired Thai Iced Tea, I only hope to visit again and drown in dumplings. Cheers!
