Zenith Engineers - Structural Engineers Near Me - Pleasanton, California

After having used Zenith for multiple projects in the last few years, looks like it's finally time to look for someone else for the next one. We started using Zenith because of its responsiveness and effectiveness when it came to structural design. With them as part of our team, we were able to keep up with the City submittal and response timelines we had set. Fast forward to today, and we can't get a hold of anyone. When we do, it's always an excuse for why they didn't respond, without a resolution. We sent them the last City comments 30 days ago and have yet to get anything viable to re-submit back to the city. Given that this is a 30-unit hotel project, going with a different firm now will mean a complete re-design of the project; an absolutely painful exercise that will set us back months. Zenith knows that. So it's absolutely shameful for them to act in a way that would even suggest that our only choice is to get the entire project re-designed by another firm just to have it keep moving forward. So much for "we respond to emails within 30 minutes and always answer phone calls" as outlined on one of their online profile. Knowing how we were treated on this round of City comments and the fact that the entire company seems complacent about what they try to embody in their rhetoric, I would stay away for any future project. read more

I would give it zero star if I could. I've never been treated so rudely. It is unbelievable. Should've read reviews on others sites before booking. Completely waste of my money. Ok, Here's the whole story- 1. Their design to demo half wall will cost over $30,000 with my contractor. 2. I informed the engineer on the second site visit that I'll just keep the wall as is. The engineer then offered a solution. The wall stays, just a wider opening. Not exactly what I originally wanted, but still good. I was so grateful that I even offered my only drinking water to the owner to wash hands. 3. The solution that the owner offered during site visit is not included in the final design they sent. Emailed back to ask if they missed it. No reply as usual (red flag: never replied emails once there's an issue). 5. Then they fired me as a customer & say will file a complaint against me for forcing them to do something against the code to the city department. Really? What exactly did I force you to do? I've never been treated so rudely. Unbelievable. Check reviews on the other site. Just like another review stated " I believe that a culture of dishonesty, selfishness, and greed, is despicable." read more

DON'T USE THEM! My husband hired them to determine if a fireplace that we wanted to remove during a remodel was structural or not. We paid them $800 to tell us it was, and then another $800 for plans to submit to San Mateo Building department to get a permit. We were told that they would provide us whatever updates to the plans that were necessary to get the permit. Several months later, we finally had a contractor who went to the city and was told we need full house plans due to the fact that we were in a flood zone. We went back to Zenith to ask for the full plans (original engineer we worked with was no longer with the company), and were told this was not included in our contract, and that we'd have to pay another $800 dollars for full house plans (this took 3 weeks to be told this). Move to demo, our contractor opened up the ceiling and realized the fireplace was NOT STRUCTURAL. He contacted Zenith directly to get a letter saying the wall was not structural. We contacted them to get our money back but have not heard back. For a company made up of structural engineers, they obviously do not know what they are doing, and are unwilling to go the extra mile to actually look into what is required to get building permits for your specific address. They seem more interested in charging customers for unnecessary work. read more

This is a mixed review, but in the end the construction work they supported was done and approved by the city so I am happy with the outcomes. I think this company has a good reputation in general since there were a few times contractors or city workers showed relief/trust when they saw they were behind the plans. I hired Zenith for retrofit plans and special inspections. I actually had challenges with the engineer assigned to my project, but he is no longer with the company. Other than my experience with him, working with the rest of the engineering team, their office staff and the engineer (Vincent) who took his place for the special inspections were great. They execute clear contracts, were easy to schedule site visits and inspections, and were prompt with showing up to their appointments. read more

Avoid this firm at all cost. We paid them to design an ADU and they took our deposit and left us in the dark for over two years. It takes sending them several emails to get a single reply from them, and then all you get get is excuses. Even their own employees got tired of how poorly this firm is run, they had several engineers and an architect move to other firms while we were waiting for our plans. read more

The team at Zenith Engineers really are fantastic. I have worked with them many times through my builder contractor client, and Zenith are producing regular engineering solutions for retrofits in the cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Santa Monica. Soft-story retrofits can be complicated and complex, especially with the various councils' soft-story ordinances, yet Zenith create *great* results on a regular basis. I was originally working with Jason Leon who is the Business Development Manager at Zenith Engineers Inc. Jason is professional, courteous and very helpful. He knows what he is doing and his plans and solutions are very clear. These days I work directly with Juliette Chandler, the Engineering Estimator at Zenith Engineers Inc. Juliette is fantastic - she works very quickly with the turnaround of engineering solutions, and this makes my job a lot smoother with soft-story retrofits. My husband and I hired Zenith to perform the structural engineering plans & calcs to remove 2 load-bearing walls in our 50+ year old, 2-story, Redwood City home. This was to allow for an open concept kitchen/living room area on the first floor. Zenith was very professional at all points during the engagement. They were quick to respond to my Yelp inquiry, we did the contracting portion remotely, and after all was signed and agreed upon, Jay came out and performed the site visit. After taking numerous measurements and pictures, and speaking with us about design options and getting our final decisions on designs, Jay did all the drawings and calcs. Irina sent us the printed and stamped drawings and calcs we needed to bring to the city for approval, which they approved at the first go (oh and trust me- Redwood City is picky! This is the only thing they approved at first try). It was particularly helpful and gracious of Jay to answer our contractor's many questions. He came back to the house to educate them on how to install a support beam in our sloped roof, which the contractor hadn't done before. I'm super grateful for Zenith- they're professional and helpful and I couldn't ask for anything more. I can't wait to post final pics after the contractors finish the job. I initially hired them for my home remodel project, but had to change direction due to my choice of architect (he did not have much experience working with the Town of Los Gatos, so we had to hire a local architect to help us - the new architect preferred to use a structural engineer he was more familiar with due to the high risk nature of our remodel plans). I had a great experience with Zenith Engineers when seeking a structural engineering report on a wall on my second floor condo. I wanted to remove a wall in my condo in Emeryville, CA and the Zenith team delivered the report early enough for me to submit their report to my HOA. I also appreciate the engineer's, Yisilayin, tenacity to get through my difficult wall. Enjoyed my interactions with their other team members: Irina, Vincent, and Prasanth. I would recommend that one of their initital contact person, Jennifer, be careful with her emails' information. When my partner initially seeked pricing from them back in May 2017, she sent us an initial price list that was incorrect and followed up with a price list that was about double the cost for each service. This put us off from them for a few months until we were ready to dive back into this project. Had that not happened, we likely would have engaged them a few months earlier. Thereafter, when I reached out to the Company a few months later, she indicated that she had misquoted us again! I got extremely frustrated with her and picked up the phone to call Vincent (Sr. Engineer) to understand why. He quickly addressed my concerns and sent me a follow up email apologizing for the drama. We hired Zenith Engineers to legalize some structural work done by the previous owner without permit. Overall, my experience was a good. Jay and his team are quite knowledgeable and provided the requirements as needed. Jay was very clear in his communication which helped me interpret the technical documentation. He was available for any questions or concerns I had, sometimes even on weekends and late evenings. I felt that their initial inspection to understand existing condition could have gone better and I had to follow up and provide a lot of information which could have been collected during the inspection. I was fortunate to find Zenith Engineers for engineering design of our new deck.  They were very responsive and easy to work with. I had worked with a previous engineer who wanted to over-engineer the design to the point where we would have been unable to use glass railings.  Zenith Engineers quickly provided a design that allowed the glass railing to easily meet the building code.  When we decided to make a small increase in the deck size, they were able to adjust the design with only minimal changes.  The deck easily passed the City's permit inspection with zero issues.  I would highly recommend Zenith Engineers for residential projects small and large. read more

Zenith was fantastic to me. I'm in the middle of a pretty significant home remodel, the wall removal I hired zenith to design being a major linchpin thereof. In all honesty, I came to zenith because they were the most affordable quote by far, which both drew me to them, but also made me a little anxious, especially since I have no experience dealing with engineers. Turns out, no reason for concern. I'm sure that most any engineering firm on yelp can turn out a plan that will pass inspection, but I seriously doubt that many have the dedication to customer service that Zenith has. I bugged them more times than I can recall with requests for clarifications and edits and they've been the picture of graciousness and service throughout. Now I've got a plan that will pass inspection and that I feel comfortable putting together. All for the (far and away) best price I could find. Seriously, what more could I ask? read more

I absolutely love this guys. I am a general contractor that has worked with Zenith Engineers for over 2 years now. Finding the right structural engineer is always a nightmare for anyone looking, because most of the time they are too busy, they are too expensive etc. Zenith engineers are very reasonable in terms of price compare to other engineers I've work with. They are also very quick, I've received proposals from them on the same day as they saw the job. Their drawings are always in super fast. I've also used them for SPECIAL INSPECTIONS, and they are absolutely the best, as they come out to the job site fairly quickly and give you the reports back super fast. read more

In our first meeting, we found the office manager and staff to be friendly. They clearly communicated the services and costs, and how they can help us. Yisilayin was our engineer. He was very efficient, knowledgeable, and responsive to our questions. He returns emails in a very timely manner. On at least two occasions, when our construction crew needed answers, his response time was immediate. When we needed a soil engineer, Yisilayin recommended several companies that he had experience with which helped us make a wise choice. When we needed to have meetings, he accommodated very quickly, once in person with our contractor and soil engineer, and once via Google Meet. He could have charged extra for these meetings, but chose not to. Zenith charged a fair price, and gave us excellent engineering drawings within the agreed time frame. I wanted to take a wall down during my remodel, but my contractor was cautious that it was a load bearing wall. Zenith arranged for a visit by Yisilayin, who assessed the house and wall then explained things very calmly, clearly and solved what I wanted to do while keeping the structural plans safe. When the building inspector had questions for the structural engineer before approving a permit, Yisilayin was on it right away. Yisilayin from Zenith Engineers did a fantastic job for our home renovation project, which involved a couple of wall demolitions. Zenith came onsite and provided a thorough assessment. Turns out one of the walls were load bearing and any demolition would require some additional reinforcement to ensure a sound structure. Zenith carefully laid out our options and was very responsive to our many questions. Yisilayin's engineering drawings easily passed the Oakland permitting process. My drawings got approved the 2nd time of the resubmittal to the City, their profession in producing technical drawings and willing to discuss with client are making the progress faster and smoother. Staffs are helpful to answer all my questions and willing to follow up with resubmittal process. We worked with Zenith Engineers to get permit for removing a wall that turned out to be a shear wall. We got quotes from a few places and they had the lowest price among the ones with good reviews. There were some hiccups along the way and the plans were ready a week later than what they were supposed to be. But, fortunately the team did everything they could to make getting the permit from the city as fast as possible. When we took the plans to the city, the reviewer had a lot of comments due to some important information missing. The next week one of the engineers from Zenith came with us to the city and addressed all the issues and we got the permit on the spot. Although, we wished that things were ready on time, we appreciate that at the end they helped us and the delay was not significant. I think we could prevented this by checking in with them more frequently. Finally, everyone that we talked with at Zenith was super nice and friendly. read more

Zenith was recommended to us by a friend since we are going through a nightmare of a situation with current structural engineers{will review that company in some time-reading similar nightmare reviews!}. Wish I had worked with zenith from the get-go. Just reading their work ethics on their website and payment schedule makes so much sense and what you would expect from your engineer on record. They are local with a real brick and mortar office!! The engineer actually will come and look at your home!! Sai came to our home to take a look at what was going on and the first question he asked after thorough observation, that no one else from the nightmare team has ever : is - what I needed to achieve in my home. I told him the three items and he went over each, one by one giving me the facts , solutions and explanations. Wow!! He was very honest with time constraints and explained it could take easily another month +. for drawings and pulling new permits with city + much more money, and even after knowing our complete situation suggested we wrap up with nightmare-company.
