Reviews With Photos - Zero New Washington Street Dog Park

    Kristen B.

Today was the brand opening of the new off leash recreational area (dog park) in Somerville at Zero Washington Street. It is no doubt a massive improvement over the dog park at Nuziato Field. Some Pros: 1) Really nice size. Nice and long for dogs who want to get in a good run. 2) Water fountain! Yay! Something Nunziato was really lacking 3) Objects to engage the dogs - an agility dog walk, really big tunnels, large rocks... 4) Benches for the 2 legged people 5) A covered area to protect from the elements 6) Lots of street parking The Con: It is still just dirt! The main problem with Nunziato is that it is just dirt/gravel that gets really muddy and filthy. They used the same for this park and as expected, my dog came home so dirty, as did my shoes and clothes. The one end of the park was so wet and muddy that we didn't even venture over to that area. You could just see the puddles of mud. I really wish that Somerville would have thought of an alternative. That is the main reason why I stopped using the Nunziato dog park, and it will probably why I won't end up coming here all that much either. Other than that, they did a really great job with this park and all of its features. It would have been nice if they would have used a ground material that was a little cleaner though.

    Watson checking things out

I love bringing my dog Watson to this dog park! It is by far the largest one i have found around the city. All the people are friendly and the dogs are great. There is a gazebo and benches for the humans to sit on and great obstacles for the dogs to play in. There are also water fountains for humans and dogs, but the doggie water bowl gets clogged and pretty dirty. I usually bring my own water for my pup just to be safe. It does get a bit dusty and muddy and if your dog loves to roll around like mine does, they'll get pretty dirty. But I've found that once it dries, the dust sort of falls out so a bath isnt always necessary. Great park, we go at least once a week!

    Happy pup!

I love the facility that my puppy can go up and down stairs to exercise his muscle and legs.

The…read morepark is gravel with some grass patches, which doesn't seem to bother any dogs, but I wish there was more. Per long-term pet parents, the grass has been gradually growing year-after-year, so maybe it will be fully grass someday. There are bowls and water fountains with adequate water pressure to ensure dogs stay hydrated when playing. There are some cliques at certain times, but haven't experienced anyone being rude - actually quite the opposite. People seem to be interested to learn and meet the newcomers (we moved back in January). The only issue I have come across is a dog walker once around 12:00pm on a weekday. He had 3-4 dogs and they all ran in and started humping mine and the walker did nothing about it, so when I got the dog off I took mine and left. Outside of this, the owners seem all responsible and are good at clocking signs when their dogs may be overstimulated or not liking another dog and will recall them. My pup is still learning how to interact with people but loves playing with other dogs. All the owners have been very respectful of him & his space and allowing him to approach them when he's ready. It's nice to see there are really nice, educated dog owners around the area!

Most dogs in the park were male puppies Not neutered owned by first time covid dog owners.. With little experience.. Very Cliquy Neighborhood Park and Most people were not nice or interested in helping me when my male dog had a problem with another dog being aggressive to my daughter dog..his sister. I understand the dynamics well and am very experienced in this field of positive and negative reinforcement. Lots of mean folks with big mouths.. picking on the new bees.. The Park was also very filthy with dog Poop spread all over seating. Since we were bullied Post likely not going back to give my dogs that negative thing. Happy Holidays
