We'd read somewhere that there was a night market on Friday's. This turned out to be Gourmet Night…read moreMarket. We dropped in around 7:00pm and it was busy. Lots of families and kids running around. It goes from 5:00pm to late (seemed to be closing up shop around 9:00pm when we left). We tried a couple vendors: 1) Paella Pan - Seafood paella ($16.00 NZD large) - my dad ate this all to himself. You get a good portion but my dad said it was pretty average. 2) Barbacoa - Tuna (#1) ($10.00 NZD) - sesame encrusted yellow tuna with Asian herbed slaw and noc chum. Tuna was lightly seared but could have used more flavour. The mango tomato salsa was summery but the bean sprouts were boring. 3) The Homegrown Kitchen - Mussel sausages with home smoked fish risotto ($12.50 NZD) - came with coriander and tomato salsa. Super delicious! The smoked fish mixed in with the risotto was bomb. Same with the mussel stuffed sausage. Pretty unique combo. - Salt + pepper calamari ($8.50 NZD) - with slaw and habanero mayo. Calamari was perfectly seasoned and oh so tender. 4) Cakes & Desserts - Lemon shortcake ($6.50 NZD) - came with cream or yoghurt on top. B got yoghurt. The shortcake could have been more lemony/tangy. 5) Friets - Ice cream sundaes ($5.50 NZD) - four flavours to choose from (salted caramel, choc brownie, spiced cookie dough and mochachino). We went with the salted caramel; salty, sweet and the chopped nuts was icing on the cake. I have no idea how this started to melt when it was freezing outside. The live music was great! Awesome voices and played some great throwbacks. Worth a visit if you're in town on a Friday evening.

Plenty of space to sit on the grass while you enjoy your food. Can highly recommend the pork sliders, yummmm, mussels, lamb cutlets were banging, the stall that sells salted ice cream sundaes and Dutch fries were also banging. Mmm... Definitely must stop if you're around the area.

Setting: Wonderful home tucked in a quiet neighborhood and close to all attractions in and around Tauranga. Well maintained grounds, all complementing a tremendously warm welcome by our hosts and owners, David and Tatiana. Easy, safe parking in front of the house, simple check-in, and all necessary creature comforts provided. Extremely clean house - spacious bedroom and closet space in upgraded room with plenty of natural light and nice view. Immaculate bathroom, spotless living room, dining area and kitchen. Breakfast: Breakfast was european style with deli meats, cheese, variety of breads, jellies, fresh cut fruit, muesli, coffee, and tea. Cooked eggs were offered but the spread was already abundant. Nothing was missed by our hosts, always attentive to our needs - food, coffee, etc. and best of all, they took the time to sit down enjoy breakfast and engage us in conversation. Social/Icebreaker: They do offer you the opportunity to join them for a social hour in the comforts of their living room with a choice of beverage including beer, white or red wine or coffee and tea in the early evening - no obligation of course, but great opportunity to chat and get to know more about beautiful Tauranga, and New Zealand. At night, it is very peaceful and we slept very well and comfortably. We did take the option to have dinner prepared at their home at a very reasonable cost and it was absolutely delicious. This was by far a wonderful evening which I would again do if offered on a future visit. Overall, the stay was most pleasant and comfortable. David and Tatiana have a beautiful home and they are an exceptionally warm, generous, knowledgable and fun couple. We are looking forward to visiting again. Thanks for an outstanding visit!

When in Tauranga, New Zealand, I decided to stay at the Roseland Motel for 2 nights. Although not…read morejust any motel, as I have learned while traveling in the USA, motels aren't what they seem overseas. I found this hotel property on Hotels.com, the premiere hotel booking sites for all things hotels. I was here for the Tauranga international marathon / half marathon weekend in mid September 2018. The location of the hotel was absolutely spot on, just about 2 blocks away from the finish line @ The Strand. This is where it gets interesting. The word motel in New Zealand doesn't seem to translate well from the United States. Actually, staying here was better than staying in similar motel properties in the United States. I checked in on Friday afternoon and checked out Sunday morning on a chill September weekend. The service upon checking in and out was nice and I was offered a bottle of milk upon check in. That usually doesn't happen! I ended up enjoying my stay here in Tauranga and at the Roseland motel. The beauty of this motel was that it was a simple king bed, with a small twin bed together in a room and a television, along with a private bathroom and shower. The bonus was the adjoining kitchen, although it was small. It worked for me. The overall experience here at the Roseland motel was pretty cool and simple. Simple enough to have elegance and simplicity while being budget friendly and logically close to where I needed to be without having to call an Uber to take me around. Fancy doesn't appeal to me when it is overpriced. Roseland motel gives me simple elegance but at an affordable budget friendly price and that's awesome! NZ $100/night is priced right and that's great. Seems like it was definitely a bargain for a weekend in Tauranga New Zealand. For the most part though, it was nice to be here and it reminded me of being at home. Simple comfortable bed and a roof over my head during my stay while being in a safe area is usually what I am after while affordable. Roseland motel gave me all those things and I am happy that I have stayed here. Roseland motel is located at 21 Brown Street in Tauranga, New Zealand. It's near the main downtown area of Tauranga and about 2 blocks away from The Strand. Like most hotels in the industry, Roseland motel accommodations accepts major credit cards, which is always amazing, especially for us travelers who use it everyday. There is a private parking lot for motel guests staying here, as well as street parking nearby the property, should there be no parking at the hotel itself. While rental cars are fun, I came here via Inter-City bus from Auckland and walked pretty much everywhere during my stay here in Tauranga while running 21.1 km through Tauranga as well. Uber works well too, if you feel the need to get here to the hotel and around Tauranga city. The king bed was quite comfortable and I didn't use the kitchen to cook anything, as I ate out during my time spent in Tauranga. The room itself was clean and comfortable. The ambiance felt like a simple hotel suite, but minus the room layout of a United States hotel type experience. It's a suite worthy of the name, just different when I'm Tauranga, New Zealand. It's not wrong, but just different. If you are in Tauranga for the marathon / half marathon event, or just in Tauranga for holiday, consider staying here at the Roseland motel. It's a good stay for budget travelers and those who love to travel without boundaries. I would recommend this property for anyone and everyone coming to Tauranga. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the room comfort and the service. Ambiance was okay but the WiFi was spotty at times. 3.0 stars for that. The bed was comfortable though and the room was clean. Support local! B
