We tried the chicken sharwama and the sweet potato fritters, both with fresh and lively salads. Yes the coffee is excellent. Could easily pass as an inner city cool bananas kind of place. We are comparing this to our city hood of Fitzroy, so yes this is on the money. Keep up the great work.

Really good coffee, great atmosphere, the staff were friendly. Lovely vibe in a really sweet town. I'd say it was an unexpected treat except we'd had so many recommendations we knew it would be good. But we're still really impressed with this hidden gem. Make the detour for lunch or dinner. Totally worth it!

The pancakes are a winner here, as well as their chicken sandwich with chicken, herbed mayo, spinach, and caramelised onion is simply delicious. I also ordered the iced chocolate - going against my sister's advice, and was let down. The chocolate tasted very powdery or bitter - not ideal for an iced chocolate as I was expecting something a little sweeter. The iced coffee however was much nicer :)

Back Black Espresso Bar was once a house that has been turned into a cafe. You can be seated one of three rooms, or outside. Sitting in one of the front two rooms gives a feeling of visiting a friend's home, a posh friend who has a cook and staff, that is. I've been here a few times for breakfast and have a favourite in 'Getting Figgy with it': sourdough toast topped with fig chutney, Meredith Farm Goats feta and a generous serving of bacon. A great mix of sweet, salty and the unmistakable tang of goats cheese for a well balanced and very filling meal. A close 2nd favourite is the french toast which can come plain, with maple and bacon or a sweet offering of lemon curd, edible flowers and icecream. The latter I am yet to try but my dining companion assured me it was pretty amazing. The coffee is excellent - I'm now a straight-up espresso drinker, no milk or sugar to spoil the purity of the pour - and I can say this is some of the best coffee I've had. Sorry that it's not on commute route otherwise I'd be a daily visitor.

She then offered us a table and told us to come back to the counter once we were ready to order, take our time and enjoy our stay. When I went to order our breakfast the conversation was like being part of the family. She asked questions about our day, travels and several about my daughter. We didn't want to point the finger at the time to The Flour Pot, as it could have been caused by something else he ate that day, and other times the staff had been so lovely, so we left it at that. Fast forward a few months and we thought we'd give it another crack. Big Mistake. We sat outside... nothing. So partner went in to grab a couple of menus. There was nothing on any of the outside tables (salt/pepper, napkins etc) went in to order, and asked if we could please get salt and pepper etc for the table - only to be rudely told that 'those things are ALREADY on the tables'. Food comes out. Ordered the 'whiting' fillet. It was a square fillet, looking like it came from a supermarket. It was the most revolting fish I've ever tried. It tasted like old fish skin, and there was a weird gluey substance between the crumbed covering and the 'meat' which was dry. I was hungry so I tried slathering it with tartare....except the tartare had the oddest tang to it, and not in a happy way. The chips were dry and cold, so I ate the salad and left it at that. Will not be going back.
