Like every other larger city of the western world Hannover has a wide variety of hip and modern food and beverage concepts to offer. Every now and again I like to settle for the traditional simplistic approach of regional dishes that can be found at the Gaststätte Kaisers in the Nordstadt. Besides the, in my opinion, best curry wurst (a large sausage with curry sauce and fries) in the northan hemisphere and really good schnitzel with a variety of sauces to choose from, steak and more delicious dishes the seasonal menus vary from asparagus specialities in autum to chanterelles in Summer and kale with smoked sausages in winter are also worth a try. The Kaiser's combines the best of two worlds combining the vibe and setting of a traditional north German pub, with british influences (huge whiskey selection, fish and chips with malt vinegar...) and a traditional German kitchen without beeing to fancy nor shabby. The place is very lively and the service is very friendly and flexible if you like to modify your orders, which I love doing.

You can't miss Cafe Del Sol as it is strategically well placed on a major roundabout. It seems to have achieved some sort of cult status for Sunday brunch, but my experience was an early evening one. I was shocked by how popular this place is. Deservedly, I think. I was particularly impressed by the fact that artificial flavours, etc for all dishes are list towards the back of the menu. I have not come across anywhere before where MSG was identified! Another pleasant surprise are the ultra-modern and hygienic Dyson hand dryers in the toilets. Staff were a bit overworked but extremely friendly. This is a family-friendly place without completely giving over to kids. Somehow they succeed in offering something for all ages, tastes, etc without succumbing to the lowest common denominator. And once you're inside you also forget all the traffic nearby.

Von irgendwelcher Schärfe in der Sriracha Mayo oder dem Himbeer-Chilli Dip war nichts zu merken, der Dip war einfach nur verdünnte Himbeermarmelade. Sehr schlecht. Das Highlight waren die Fries, die waren erstaunlich gut. Insgesamt war ich aber nach dem Burger eher hungriger als vorher. Meine Begleitung hatte Hähnchenschnitzel - und die waren leider ein totaler Ausfall. Unglaublich dünn, Formfleisch, komplett trocken und mit mehr Panade als Fleisch. Eher Fingerfood als ein Hauptgericht. Die dazu gereichte Tomatensauce war erfreulich gut. Dazu ein eigentlich schöner Salat mit einem leider sehr wässerigen Joghurtdressing und einem zu dominanten Minzgeschmack. Schlecht. 60 Euro für das Essen und drei Bier waren für die Qualität und Menge nicht angemessen.
