Italian food, particularly pasta, is deceptively simple and very easy to do wrong. I tend not to order it when I'm out because it is so often disappointing, with dry pasta or underwhelming flavors, or just ridiculously overpriced. Casa Romana does it perfectly and I've never had a bad meal there. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are good, and the menu is full of traditional dishes like lasagna and spaghetti carbonara plus a few fancier options as well as the daily specials. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff always great. The decor nice but comfortable, this place isn't trying to be trendy but it's nice enough for a date or taking your mother to. As others have mentioned, it's worth making a reservation if you've going in the evening just in case they're full. Also keep in mind there's no sign outside, just look for the cozy place with the distinctively shaped door.

Once we'd been seated and ordered drinks the children seemed to be having problems choosing from the menu so we were asked if they'd like to make their own pizzas - of course the answer was "yes". Whilst the grown-ups relaxed reading the menu in peace and quiet and weighing up the merits or rissotto, pizza and pasta dishes, the children were taken to wash their hands, given hats and then helped to make their pizzas. The pizzas are cooked in a huge open pizza oven at the back of the restaurant so you can see your pizza puffing up and the cheese melting. My rissotto was yummy and the other grown-ups were equally happy with their dishes but what made this meal really specially was the way all the staff in this posh looking restaurant treated our children as welcome guests.

My father tried to call again last week to book another table for 13th December, hoping to use to remainder of the gift card to use towards the next table and was told the gift card expires after one year. He offered to use the gift card towards pre-paying for the entire meal, and was told this wasn't possible. For the sake of 12 days, my family will not be revisiting. My family travel hours from the South East to visit this restaurant, we have left generous gratuities over the years and to be told on the phone that our gift card will not be honoured less than 2 weeks after its expiry tells me that this company is.... I would avoid this restaurant if you value loyalty and expect the customer service which this company prides itself on. 1 out of 5 stars, we will never be returning over this. You have lost a valuable customer who, despite having a major physical disability, was extremely excited to travel 160 miles to enjoy a meal here again.

The crust is good, but it was way too salty for me. For dinner, I had Rigatoni alla Norma, which was very good with fresh tomatoes, eggplant, cheese, etc. The portion is small, but enough for me. I really enjoyed this dish. My husband ordered the chicken special, which was a flattened, breaded chicken with three roasted tomatoes, lemon and thyme on the side. You had to use the tomato, lemon and thyme on the chicken to provide flavor and moisture for the chicken. It was good all together. It was clear that it was expected to order a side item with the chicken, so he opted for mixed vegetables. I didn't realize this is a chain and wouldn't have chosen a chain. I had the orange straciatella which I've never seen before and it was lovely. Reasonably priced at £2.95 for a double scoop. Coffees and teas are all good prices and there's a large selection of cakes available. Wish I lived round here so I could come by for waffles or porridge for breakfast! They do a very good breakfast and brunch menu too proving this is a place to meet family and friends anytime of the day. Good fresh coffee makes it a good alterative to a coffee shop, it has a great buzie atmosphere and is very child friendly.
