The venue itself is not too big but, in this case it adds to the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly behind the bar as well as at the door. The prices are okay, standard for most bars in town. The crowd is a good mix of young and old, but it depends on the night as well as the particular performance. The sound system in this venue is okay, but loud performances are just a little bit too big for venues like this. The price of admission to a music performance is cheap (in this case 12 euros) for a music performance, and you often get a warm-up act to go with it. All things considered, I'll be back here whenever they have some other good artists coming up!

To become a member they need some personal information and they would like to know your life philosophy. Wow! That makes me feel special if I am granted a membership. But once inside the place is so INclusive. Which is great. No wannabees, nothing pretentious, just passionate and friendly people in the kitchen and at the bar. The guests are not snobs at all, which you might expect from the way they present themselves on the website. Why then not cut this crap and just present the place as the trendy inclusive place you have to visit in Rotterdam? Probably because it is pretty hard to find and before you have this word going around you need something extra. The club is situated on the 8th floor of the Groothandelsgebouw. You have to enter into the main hall, past the night receptionist and then into the inner garden where you'll find the entrance totally unexpected. After a welcome from the doorman and leaving your coat at the hostess you are summoned to take the goods elevated to the 8th floor where you enter the place through the kitchen. As you may know, my husband and I are in the music industry and attend many live concerts. Often globally if possible, and most likely Jazz. The original classical music of America. A lot has changed but the buzz never left and so it reopened in the form of a theatre a few years ago. The outside still looks exactly the same but indoors the dancefloor made space for a stage for performances, stand up comedians, music and more of that jazz. With over 200 performances a year there is reason enough to check out what's happening. Normally, they do not provide food but you can choose from a load of fab places left, right and centre. Their sunday breakfast matinees are marvelous and a good excuse to get you out of the door. And yes, this ones does come with breakfast. This is THE festival for something special, bizarre, odd, inspiring or......whatever. It's all in there. Unreal and wonderful at the same time. Where random strangers can turn into friends or at least good conversation buddies, just in passing. This micro-cosmos will have you buzzing with joy and excitement. Not many restrictions and a lot of freedom and adventure! What have I seen so far? Uhhhm..... a lot of movies (duh!) a whole lot of nice people, cool directors and four cute boys. Two visitors, one actor and one employee. And here I was thinking there wouldn't be any this year! Apart from movies in different kinds of catagories, there are debates, talk shows, live music by local artist or students from Codarts, lectures and exhibitions. One of those exhibitions is Destination: Europe. It's supposedly a museum in 2037 that looks back on the 'experiment' called Europe. It's a maze that shows you the history (real and made up) of Europe. Subjects are migration and borders, food and trade, finance and social questions. In 2017 Scotland is supposed to have joined the EU. Funny right? In the Q and A's actors and directors interact freely with the audiance. Most of the time you can bump into them at parties at the Doelen or the Schouwburg. Parties there are quite something. For the diehard party goers who love late, late night parties there is Hotel Centraal. Everyone ends up there at some point. As a volunteer you got it even better. Volunteer parties are great and you can watch movies for free!!! If all the halls are busy, sometimes you get put in a change room that's actually next to where the public enters and exits the hall. It's not very private and also not super safe for your valuables. That being said, I've only played here and never actually attended a concert, which I'm sure is a very different experience.
