This most-recent (I think) addition to Freiburg's bar scene has been a hole-in-one with me, and with more than a few other people around here, judging from the crowds on weekend evenings. Of course on the weekends in the evening they stop playing the great old-school stuff... but they don't sell out. Unlike other bars (El Pi... ahem ahem) which will start drowning you in mainstream pop and hip-hop as soon as it's 11 or so, The Great Rang Teng Teng's staff makes the music a bit more modern... but still palatable to us music snobs. Mostly accessible indie with some classics thrown in here and there. Also, be sure to pick up their calendar of upcoming events -- they feature live music regularly as well. And, to make sure this is an authentic old-school dive bar experience, it's in a basement... so your cell phone won't work! After just a few weeks of existence, this is already my favorite bar in Freiburg. Nothing complicated, easy going and nice atmosphere. The staff is OK, but could be a little bit more friendly :) At the weekend it really get crowded. So get used to it to wait for a few beers. When moving from Vienna to the lovely yet small city of Freiburg, the first thing I needed to find was a cool place to become my new friendly neighbourhood bar in town. Since Freiburg is a student town and I am not very fond of these typical student hangout bars, this was not quite easy but eventually I found this small dive bar a little bit off the crowded city center, easy to miss when one doesn't know where to look for it. But once I found my way in, I knew I had come to the right place. This bar is full of atmosphere due to good music, friendly bartenders and a very obvious love for details which one finds not only in the decoration but also in their excellent cocktails! The Bartender Kadda is a gold mine of information about all kinds of spirits and knows how to mix them right to come up with a fancy, tasty cocktail - either classic ones or custom made ;-) I also very appreciate the fact that they offer a small selection of craft beers - this alone was reason enough for me to make Erika my favorite bar in Freiburg!

It's a bit divey, for sure, but not in a dirty or dingy way. Despite Yelp saying that credit cards are accepted here, the bartenders told me otherwise (with a 30CHF bill), so keep that in mind if you're visiting from out of town and have limited Swiss currency. I'm guessing those instances are probably limited, given the relative neighborhood-y feel to the bar, but with its proximity to the train station you never know. There's not much specifically identifiable as great about Olé Olé, but it's the culmination of everything about the place that just makes it generally lovable. The bartender gals are cheerful and charming, and even manage to have their own labeled beer as a result of their infamy. The patrons are chill, but friendly, so much so that we wound up back at the flat of one of the people we met at the bar to have some after-hours drinks and inevitably chat about global politics (some things never change). Pricing seemed decent, with 4 beers (I think) being about 25-30CHF. They only had the local beer Amboss on draft in two varieties, which was pretty mediocre, but still better than the Bud or Miller products you would find in a similar dive back in the U.S. This definitely feels like more of a shots or whiskey sipping kind of bar. The bathroom deserves its own special mention here, with some of the most odd / interesting decor I've ever seen, featuring a full size skeleton hovering over the toilet with a bouquet of flowers for a groin, and a machine that dispenses something called "Travel Pussy".

The crowd is kinda down-to-earth till the a-wanna-be-a-hipster. The music is nice (alternative - Rock). Prices of drinks are OK. Normal prices for Kreis 4. Just pay attention, it is a narrow bar. It gets difficult when you are with more then 4 people. And you can not be outside because it is right at the street. For sure a place to go once in a while.

Just all around great experience. The beer, Waldhaus, was one of the best beers I've ever had. Really a great introduction to German beers for me. They also have a number of liquors and liqueurs and offer all types of cocktails. I believe they have wine. I always had beer here. This was a great place with great beer and great companionship. What more can you ask for? They have some games. They allow smoking. It can get a little loud when they place is full. It is a must see place when you are in Baden Baden.
