Each main dish comes with house salad on the side. You can tell that this restaurant is for local family gathering. They are famous for their pork shoulder dish. We ordered their homemade soups (Horseradish creamy soup and garlic & chive soup - very creative recipe only found at this place :) also ordered spaetzle (Germany egg noodles) with deep fried onions on the top is very interesting dish (one of food must try when visiting Germany. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially if you have a bigger group. They have an extensive menu and can recommend the Schaufele and the Schmankerlpfanne (I know that's a mouthful)....it was definitely our best meal in Rothenburg. And be sure to try their selection of schnapps.

Not a problem here. My friends ordered gulasche soup; a baked potato with salad combination plate (with two "small" baked potatoes drenched with what appeared to be fifteen pounds of butter); very tasty sausage with very, very tasty sauerkraut; and what I ordered: Bamberg style stuffed onion with mashed potatoes. I thought I was being virtuous. I must rethink my definition. The two very large onions were stuffed with a pork/bacon/bread/herb mix then roasted. Delicate taste that paired beautifully with mashed potatoes and smoked beer/beef stock sauce. Wunderbar! Look, I'm not a fan of tourist traps. Schlenkerla is certainly well-promoted to all of the tour operators, but most of the diners were obviously local. The menu was the same for all, as was the service. The atmosphere is quite relaxed without an enforced dress code. Most diners were in jeans and a button shirt paying homage to the Chef's wishes to enjoy the food without any of the traditional formalities. And did I not mention SoulFood earned a well deserved 1 Michelin Star in 2022?!! So I definitely recommend the restaurant for a place in indulge without the stress of 'dressing for the occasion.' The tasting menu is seasonal and always changing, and one would be lucky to try the level of sophistication coming out from this kitchen. The dining area is relatively small and I believe they only sit one cover a night; so reservations are a MUST! We came with a party of four, and the tasting menu was at a relative bargain at $89 euros given that the tax and tip is include (although we did still tip a little more for the superb hospitality!). The tasting menu started a couple of amuse which only gets you mouth watering for the mains! All of courses displayed the essence of "NYC" uniqueness and cooked to perfection. We paired each course was an amazing selection of local wine that were less than $5 euros a pour, and these pours were HEAVY. The prices are moderate, but can elevate if you select 3-4 course meals that are on the menu. Reservations are recommended due to the space, popularity and great selections on the menu card!
