This castle, within an easy (mostly counter-traffic on weekdays) one hour drive from Prague gets…read moreits importance from the fact that it was one of the residences of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand - his assassination started the World War number one. It is worth visiting due to the fact that the interiors of the castle due to a lucky combination of circumstances now look pretty much the same as in 1914.
The museum offers multiple tours that show you the different faucets of the castle. The most important is #3, as this is the one that shows you how the heir to the throne of the Austrian-Hungarian empire actually lived. All tours are worth attending and the cost of each is about $7 per person (parking is another $2.50). Each tour will take approximately an hour. During the summer season it is worth coming on weekdays and early (the castle opens at 10AM) to beat the crowds (although the crowds on weekdays are quite reasonable). Most tours are conducted in Czech - if you do not understand the language, simply request an audioguide when booking.
The restaurant inside the caste (in the former palace kitchen) serves Czech food and is quite decent within its league (restaurants inside tourist attractions in the middle of nowhere).
