A beautiful park and zoo in Göteborg, and it's free!…read more Slottsskogen was the highlight of my visit to Göteborg as well as one of my favourite experiences on my trip to Europe. I highly recommend it, and if you only have time to do a couple of things while in Göteborg, Slottsskogen should be a priority. The park is huge--perfect for a picnic or a game of Frisbee, and there is a zoo (one of the oldest in Sweden, according to the website). It's a great way to spend a day, and best of all, it's free!

There are paths for walking/running/biking, there's a giant pond with birds and little boats, there is an area with animals like ELK!, there is a playground, there is plenty of room for picnicking... and more! The location of Slottskogen is also fantastic - from one end you can easily access the botanical gardens and from the other you can head directly into town. Whenever I am in Göteborg, this place is tops on my list!

You can either start south of the Fortress, just by the Bohusbron Bridge (there's a parking lot, 4 hours free) or north of the Fortress at the Ställplats - Husbil Camping and Parking lot (fees apply). The walk along the water and around the Fortress is quite short, but very nice. Sheep roam around free here, so please be respectful of their territory. Dogs are allowed though. There's a bunch of benches with nice views and some water access in case your furry friend needs a quick dip (ours did). If you are visiting the Fortress, be sure not to miss out on this little walk. We stayed nearby this area for a couple of days and really felt like walking that day. We parked on…read moreDrottninggatan close to the harbourfront. From there we entered the Reserve from the North (near the Marina). As soon as you go around the corner from the Marina you'll be quite surprised. You wouldn't expect such an impressive Reserve so close to a town. It's really just around the corner but feels like another world. The views are amazing and the rocks and rock formations impressive. We brought our dog with (an English Bulldog). She did amazingly well. Just at the very beginning on the Northern Entrance a few steps leading up were too big and steep, so we carried her quick. Later on there's an easy trail leading back to town. Or you can follow a tougher route (sometimes no route at all) leading towards the famous Fyrhuset. We had fun exploring the area as did our dog. Nice views and nature and it was just fun climbing around here. Sometimes taking a break - sitting on some rocks - to take in the amazing landscape. If you only need to park up to 4 hours, then there's a free parking lot just south of the Gullmarsgymnasiet. If you are around this area - even an hour or two away - be sure not to miss out on this terrific Nature Reserve.

Most of the time you share the lane with bikers which are quite high in numbers, but usually there's no problem with passing them. The views here are quite amazing and the rock formations as well. Some picknick spots and sights line the way. And there are also numerous spots to go take a dip in the water (with stairs leading down). We walked much further than we planned to, it was just such an enjoyable walk. Very much worth a visit when around Varberg!

Crazy cool place. Quiet a hike to get to this place from the parking lot. Really cool walk and very…read morewindy. Saw multiple corpses on the shore of large sea animals (May be disturbing to some) and at the very end of the land saw multiple baby seals. If you want to get to the very peak you will have to get wet. I had to take off shoes and roll up pants. Got up to about right below knee height in one of the crossings, but again well worth it. Came at sunset and there were some really cool views from here. High recommend this place!

There are various length and levels of fitness…read more Strong winds all year round so if you're traveling in the winter make sure you're wearing proper gear including water and wind proof jackets, gloves, beanies, and water proof shoes. Remember to bring your camera! Due to strong current, there is no swimming allowed. This is where the North Sea and Kattegat meets after all.
