AT took me to visit his high school town of Guérande, which is known in the culinary and even cosmetic world for its exquisite sea salt (I even saw the salt marshes and while we couldn't really stop to catch photos--the roads don't have much of a shoulder--I enjoyed just witnessing them live). The cool thing about visiting Guérande is seeing the massive fortification wall that almost entirely encircles the medieval city. The size is massive and seriously deserving of jaw-dropping. This review is for L'église Saint-Aubin de Guérande though, not the whole city. I did not get to take a careful look inside, as the church was not open for tours, but I got to catch a glimpse of the interior, which was too dark for photos. It was beautiful and reminiscent of larger cathedrals that I have seen in France. The outer architecture is intricate and beautiful and really demands admiration for standing in all its splendor since the 12th century (it stands where two other churches were). Yeah, you read that right. Anyway, I'm not a history junkie nor do I have too many facts on the Church of Saint Aubin of Guérande to share with you. The information online will be in French, so if you can read it, more power to you. Or you can just put Google Translate into full effect. If you visit Guérande, stop by and snap some photos of this beautiful church. There are tons of cool shops in the vicinity for you to buy gifts and souvenirs or you can just stuff yourself with goodies from the nearby bakeries, chocolate shops, and restaurants.
