Yes, it's a castle but it doesn't have the artifacts like so many castles museums. It is used still be the city/county government. You only get to seem a few rooms. It had activities for children which was nice and the children seemed to enjoy it. The gift shop had dragon items which matched the activities. If you have a free morning in Stockholm, I recommend taking a 2hr train to Örebro and visiting the Örebro slott (or castle). This is one of the top 10 castles to see in Sweden and has been standing strong since 1364. The name of Örebro comes from the small stones, called "ör" in Swedish, that a river transports. The second part of the word comes from the bridge ("bro") that was built over this ford. Important roads passed by this strategic place because from here one could control the traffic and the trade in the inner parts of Sweden. You can tour this castle within an hour and still have time to have a nice meal in town or make your way to another fortress nearby. I always take the train for transportation to venture off when I am in Europe to meet new people along the way and plan out my future adventures! A very cool castle here in Örebro but do not expect for a full day tour or much going on. read more

It's a freaking castle. How do you not love the thing. It doesn't take long to swing by and walk around, check out the moat. The signs were not awesome for opening/closing times, and jeez, we could not get the open times on the phone or their website so that bit of administration sucked. I'm not sure why it's so hard to update the sign (might I suggest a sharpie?). And don't get me started on updating a website.... I actually got information about open times from the restaurant across the street. If you get there before 10, there is plenty of street parking, and you can walk around the area for a while. There is also a great church and town square nearby. I would say to give 2-3 hours. read more
