But if you have time, and are in good shape, spend a night or two in the area, and visit the nearby Ehrenberg Castle ruins. Wear your athletic/hiking gear, bring snacks and a liter of water, and get ready to work off that those bratwursts and schintzels. Not gonna lie, this is gonna require physical effort hiking uphill! These ruins are actually a complex with 4 castles, one of which is completely wiped out. For most people who aren't fully prepared, like myself, the 15-25 minute hike up to the main castle is enough satisfaction. Explore the castle, enjoy the views, and definitely spend the €8 to cross the thrilling Highline179 suspension bridge, which is 360-ft above the earth, and at 1,322-ft is supposedly the longest in the world! I made a valiant but futile attempt to hike up to the fortress at the very top. The sign says its a 45 minute uphill battle. After about 15 minutes of sweating and heavy cardio, I gave up when I realized my 500ml water bottle was down to 20%, and my stomach was growling at me. Next time I'll bring at least 1 liter of water, food, backpack, and shorts...next time... Getting there: From Fussen bus station, take bus 74 or 4258 for 35min to Reutte Bahnhof. Then switch to bus 4250 for about 10-15min ride to the Ehrenberg Klause stop. To get back, I asked the gift shop to call a taxi for me to take me back to the Reutte bus station, which cost about €13. Then take bus 4258 back to Fussen.

There are some very well preserved areas, like some of the towers that you can go into and look out across the valley. The gunpowder tower was a fun area to visit too. The dungeons are at the bottom of the hill, just before the short but steep walk up to the castle. They're done very well. A little spooky, but still made fun for kids. The scaffolding on the ruins - although probably necessary - definitely takes away from the experience a little. Worth a visit if you're in the area and wanting to do the Highline.

A very unique museum with lots of interesting items to explore. We could get up very close to…read morealmost everything and my kids loved to use the digital scanners to read about any item that interested them. We could stay in the same room but explore different artifacts at our own pace. The family ticket for 16 Euro was great and included the church.
