When we first went to Ankara, we discovered this place near our hotel and immediately fell in love with it for the great food, great prices, and great service. It's a fairly straightforward place, not super fancy (or touristy since this is not a very touristy area) but a very nice, clean, comfortable modern restaurant. The food is excellent and they specialize in "tereyagli" dishes, which means, literally, "buttery." These are a class of dish, the most famous of which is Iskender or Bursa Kebap, which often have doner meat with tomato sauce in some combination, sometimes with bread of some sort, and drizzled in the end with hot clarified butter. They also have pide ("Turkish pizza") and some other things. The prices are very reasonable, too. Our first time in Ankara, we ate dinner here every night.

Boğaziçi Lokantası is a very good sample for those tremendous "Esnaf Lokantası"( little shop owners…read morelunch place) in Turkey. For those market places in all around Turkey, as in Anafartalar Çarsısı shop owners and surrounding of it and bureaucrats in old Ankara used to come this place since 1956. Although it changed it's character and turned out a bit more "touristic" nowadays, this is a unique sample for tasting great Turkish foods. It is not only kebaps or döner in Turkey. Go to Anadolu Et for lunch (they might run out of doner if you go way past lunch time), order 'servis doner' (doner served between two pita on a plate) and you won't be disappointed!! I haven't tried their other food. The doner is soooo good that I never really got around to. After your meal, don't forget to drink the turkish tea which they serve for free! This place is truly a gem, even thinking about the doner makes me drool. Update: just learned that the place is also open on sundays till 8 pm, yay!!
