When in Lyon, we wanted to eat at a legitimate Lyonnaise bouchon. I can't describe what makes it a legitimate bouchon, but we trusted all the recommendations online for this place! The place was quaint, with checker covered tablecloths with all french speaking customers. Fortunately, the menu had english translations of all the food items, so we were able to pick and point out our meal selections.
They brought out bread with delicious creamy herb cheese with fried pork cracklings. Delicious starters. I then ordered the lunch set menu (21 euros) which consisted of the following:
1. Ratatouille - The ratatouille was on a bed of delicious pesto sauce and topped with a perfectly poached egg and arugula. It came with a piece of crusty bread with olive tapenade. The stewed vegetables in the ratatouille were delicious. The meal was a bit room temperature, but I learned that is how it is usually served.
2. Side of macaroni gratin with buttered potatoes - The potatoes were delicious and provided with perfect amount of saltiness for the macaroni gratin. The macaroni was creamy but a bit bland, but worked perfectly with all the other meal items.
3. Chocolate eclair - very rich dessert that I recommend you pair with a cup of strong expresso. yum!
My husband ordered the silkweaver's stew - a piping hot broth with pork cheek, pork rind, thick cut bcon, and lyonnaise sausage. My husband enjoyed the sausage the best and paired it with my side of macaroni gratin and potatoes since it did not come with it's own starch.
Hearty meal with attentive service. Wines were delicious as well and so affordable (as it is in most of France!). I recommend this place if you are in the Vieux Lyon area. We observed lots of large families here for meals. read more
