3.5 Stars, but I'll round it up to 4. Having heard plenty of buzz about District Taco, I figured I might as well give them a shot. A hop and a skip and I was across the Potomac, ready to nosh on some Mexican goodness. The parking lot was packed (imagine a low-budget airliner, but for cars) yet the restaurant itself had plenty of open seats. The cashier was nice, as were the other workers I interacted with and the food came out quickly. District Taco has quite a few offerings but I decided to go straight for the tacos. I ordered two tacos with barbacoa and cheese. Real simple, I know, but you can add up to three toppings for free (although there are some premium toppings that cost extra). There's a salsa bar with some different salsas, from mild to medium to hot (that last one is pretty spicy). Boylan's soda is available "on tap" from a fountain, which is always a nice treat. The tacos themselves were... underwhelming given the hype I've read. The meat was tasty, and the cheese was good, but these tacos are not that big. I am compelled to compare to Chipotle tacos that are like the Ford Excursions of the fast food world. These were more like an Explorer. I also wish they offered hard shell tacos, because the whole package was a little too soft for me. Nevertheless, they were tasty enough for me to order a third (although that was also because I was still hungry). This time I went to town on the taco and put on guacamole and chorizo. That combination was very flavorful, although the chorizo was a bit too oily. Overall I liked it, but I wouldn't drive out here just for the tacos again. If it's not an inconvenient drive for you then by all means check it out. The ingredients are fresh and tasty, but don't go expecting the Mexican ambrosia. read more
