A German bakery in Hawaii? YES! But...
I'm no expert though I have been to Germany a number of times having visited four major cities and the surrounding areas so I think I can say the pretzels here are uhhh, different. Overcooked, if not burnt with sweet spots here and there and processed cheese added for good measure. Yuck!!!
What saves them are their cakes. Yes, they have tried to import and use ingredients from Germany, you can't get them all as such they fall slightly short of their authentic counterparts. That said, the carrot cake is excellent. Different from the American version, this one is moist but the cake crumbles when forked. The cream cheese frosting is excellent with the perfect amount of tartness and sour notes. Explosive carrot taste.
The apple cake, delish albeit with the apples undercooked (half way between cooked and crunchy) by American taste. Straight up good eats with the right amount of tartness.
Very friendly and helpful service.
Something deferment and in this case, despite not being a resounding success, all good read more
