We wanted to do something fun with the kids this weekend and decided to check out some apple orchards. The first one we went to, The Apple Orchard, had a 2 hour wait to get in. See my brief review on that page. We drove past many farms along Derry, so we stopped at Applevale. Unlike some farms that charge both an admission fee and charge for the apples picked, Applevale only requires you to spend a minimum of $20 on apples to gain entry. In terms of Covid precautions, there weren't any except for one sign to stay 2m apart and a bottle of hand sanitizer at the entrance. We spent $20 for a large bag and went on our merry way. There is a map showing which types of apples were located, but once we started walking, we realized that there weren't any signs indicating which apples are which, except for some coloured dots sprayed on some trees. Guess you had to taste each one to know what kind of apples you're picking! There were quick a few families out at the farm, but as you walk further into the orchard, the crowds spaced themselves out. Would've been nice if there was a bathroom, oh well... I would probably go again as the kids had lots of fun running around and eating the apples. The crowds weren't bad, so that's a bonus for me. No one was wearing masks outdoors, only the ladies at the front entrance. read more
