I come to the Arc a lot, although I don't use the gym facilities (Glasgow Roller Derby use the main halls for training). So apologies, I don't actually know what the gym space is like apart from being able to see the people on their bikes at the window that overlook the gym hall!
The staff on reception are always friendly and helpful. The foyer has a drinks machine that only sells lucozade/sports drinks which can be a downer if you forgot your water and don't like sports drinks. There is now barrier entry meaning you need a swipe card to go in and out, obviously to keep non-members out of the gym.
The main hall is big enough to fit two basketball courts, or one roller derby track with seating. The floor is nice to skate on, if not a little slippy but you get used to it quickly. We sometimes train in the smaller hall with black flooring which is more slippery but has a full length mirror down the length of the room so you can check out you're in proper derby stance (handy!).
The best thing about the Arc is the changing area and toilets, they are always clean and tidy. People seem to respect the space and don't leave rubbish lying around. Big props to the staff who keep these spaces tidy when I'm sure there must be loads of people using these areas.
When I train at the Arc I park on Milton Street behind Glasgow Cali and walk through the campus as it's cheaper than parking at Concert Square. It's free on a Sunday and after 6pm during the week. read more
