This was one of the best experiences with Mexican food that we've had in Maine so far, and definitely top dog in the Westbrook/Windham/Gorham area! We came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, expecting it to be packed. It was actually pretty quiet and service was exceptional. There were a couple of drink specials that we had to try - a Mexican Espresso Martini with honey tequila and cinnamon simple syrup and a spicy pineapple margarita. Both were amazing. Chips were warm and salsa was good. After we ordered, the food came out quick - shockingly so. Both my chicken tamale and Chile relleno were smothered in this amazing red sauce with nice chile flavor. The relleno had a very satisfying cheese pull and reminded me of what I used to get in Southern California. The chicken in the tamale was a little dry, but I used the red sauce to solve that problem real quick. The dish that I was a little disappointed in was the birria taco - the consomme was very oily and didn't have that depth of flavor that you expect from this dish. There also wasn't nearly enough cheese. The braised beef inside was very very tender and tasty, though. The Pollo Sinaloense - a thinly pounded and breaded chicken breast topped with chorizo and cheese - was unique and delicious, and nicely balanced with a little salad and Spanish rice. The restaurant itself is bigger than it looks from the outside and the booths are nice and comfy. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations.
