If you're looking for a place where both you and your dog can have an awesome time, Baxter's Dog Park & Bar in Stuart is it! First tip: Follow them on Facebook because they post updates about all the fun activities happening throughout the week. We went on Wednesday night for free bingo, and it was so much fun! They gave away great prizes, including free drinks and gift cards. Our dog always has the best time here. It is basically a water park for dogs! There are pools and splash areas, along with plenty of covered seating, fans, and water misters to keep everyone cool in the Florida heat. Just be aware that children under 12 are not permitted inside the dog park area. Older children who are allowed inside may want to wear bathing suits because playing with the dogs can definitely turn into a wet and messy adventure! They also have pickleball courts and cornhole, so there is plenty to do besides watching the dogs play. Their bathrooms are always clean, modern, and super nice. That is extra important to us girlies! One of my favorite features is the covered bar. Part of the bar is actually inside the dog park, so you can sit and enjoy a drink while your dog hangs out right beside you. I believe they currently serve beer and wine, which makes sense because people still need to responsibly supervise their dogs. They sometimes have food trucks, and the staff even brought our food directly to us inside the dog area. That was extremely convenient! The hot dog was bomb! The empanadas tasted good but were a little dry inside and could have used more moisture. We have visited about six times, and nearly every time the "rufferies" have been excellent about supervising the dogs and quickly picking up any messes. Our most recent visit was a little different. The attendant spent a lot of time sitting on her phone and did not appear to be watching the dogs as closely as the other attendants normally do. Dog owners also have a responsibility to watch their own dogs. There was a couple with two dogs that repeatedly bullied other dogs, and it was not cute or funny. Your dog is not being adorable when it continues intimidating or going after other people's dogs. The staff really needed to step in and ask the owners to leave because the dogs were behaving aggressively. If someone is still working on socializing an aggressive dog, a paid dog park filled with people and pets is not the appropriate place to practice. One addition I would love to see is frozen drinks! Even a blender for virgin piña coladas, strawberry daiquiris, frozen lemonade, or other alcohol-free frozen drinks would be perfect for hot Florida days. A limited specialty menu with drinks like mules or mojitos could also be fun, perhaps with a two-drink maximum for anyone supervising a dog. That would be completely understandable and responsible. Overall, Baxter's is a great asset to the community, and I truly hope it stays in business for many years. It is a unique place where dogs can play, humans can relax, and everyone can have a fun evening together. We will definitely keep coming back! read more
