While driving through Little Havana after an art show, I found this new looking spot right off the corner of Flagler & 17th. I know back in the day it used to be a Cuban bakery, but now it's Dominican known and I was able to try a chimi.
What is that you ask? Well, it's late night gourmet. Served on a soft baguette ("pan de agua"), this was a deliciously messy stack of chicken breast with a tangy seasoning, melted Gouda, actual green tomatoes, ketchup and mayo. The bread was fluffy and a touch warm, and the chicken size large enough that I could only eat half of the sandwich with the rest for later.
The spot is geared for takeout - a classic ventanita - with a couple of seats if you want to eat right there. When I went, the owner was there as well, chatting with the customers. I definitely want to go back and try some of their side dishes like the tequenos and some of the other sandwiches. read more
