The future is here...but it's pricey! I took a break from work to walk over to the building's newest offering the BITS completely autonomous convenience store! The Boca Raton Innovation Campus is a huge office complex, but if you work here or just happen to be close by with a need for a convenience store type visit BITS is a novelty experience. You download an app before you enter and sign up for an account (attaching a payment method)...then you use the QR code in the app to scan yourself through a turnstile and shop away. Through magic (ok it's probably technology, but that's the same thing to this cavewoman) they know what you selected and bill you accordingly.
There are some premade food options like soup, sandwiches and a few pastries...but the Java cafe is right outside the entrance to BITS and they will make you fantastic food fresh so I'd skip the prepared foods at BITS unless you are working late and very hungry and already in the building.
The rest is standard convenience store fare...with some "upscale" options and a pretty robust protein bar and energy drink section.
I'd say most things looked like they were 2-3 times the price you'd pay at a Walmart...but maybe only twice that of a 7-11. You pay for convenience here. Although considering they have no staff members working the store and no salaries to pay there they could make prices a touch more reasonable.
Overall, it was fun to shop it once for the experience (and to pickup their $1 candy bar special for opening week) but I am. It sure I'd need to go back again.
If you do go stay and checkout the building...there is a whole artist collective/working gallery spaces right next to BITS, and just down the corridor toward the 4920 building you can find and walk the longest hallway in the Western Hemisphere. Plus BRIC is known for art displays everywhere and the air conditioning is nice and cool so it makes for a nice wander! read more
