On our way back from the windy sand dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park, our minivan was stopped at a long traffic light. We noticed this Brew Thru store next to us, with a soft halo around it and the sound of angels singing (OK, I made up the last part). My friend Steve and I both said simultaneously "We need beer!", and I made a quick right turn into the entrance.
Talk about easy, instant gratification: We pulled the car in to the arch-shaped store, ordered a case of cold beer (plus a bag of pretzels for the kids); They handed us the goods, we paid, drove forward, threw a couple of bucks into the tip bucket, and then were on our way again, just in time to re-enter traffic and make the next light.
Since we were thirsty, some of us were tempted to pop open our newly-acquired brewskis right there, but we were good citizens and waited until we parked at the beach house about 15 minutes later.
Later that night we figured the only way they could improve on this genius idea would be to drive up beside you while you're on the highway, match speed, and make the transfer there.
I'm working on it. read more
