Our first family active sign up, ever. What we thought would be a fun night of foam, glow sticks, colorful activity, turned into a Sunday funday, muddy, sunny, all terrain type of walk/jog. It was unexpected but we're open for whatever as long as we're together. The location is gorgeous! I don't get out to this side at all but now that I've been living Central Oahu for a bit, it's not inconvenient as it used to be. The directions from the registration email made it simple enough to find. Parking would have been $20 cash but before getting to the parking entrance we notice lots of cars parking to the side of the main road. We followed and saved ourselves $20 for snacks at the end of the race. We also gained a few steps making our way in, win win. We got to the start line just in time. Our wave was at 10am and we arrived (starting line) at 950am. Even within the 10am wave they separated them into its own mini waves. Serious people stay at the front and the casual walkers just float around. In the beginning it was hard to get a good pace because it's narrow and there are some leisurely casual walkers that form rows of groups and clog up the path. For us it's no biggie but I'm sure some would get annoyed. After a while we were able to pass them and walk/jog a bit faster. This course is very uneven throughout. Jogging is a bit rough especially for those with bad knees and ankles. But for the most part, anyone can do it. Make sure to bring old clothing, shoes and socks. Maybe even towels to sit on in the car or clothes to change into, although there were only portable restrooms on site... My kids are pretty active and not shy of making a mess, but even this one was too much for them toward the end. Where the bubble stations are, the ground gets extra muddy. The last two stations, our feet were sloshing around in our muddy/soapy shoes. Completely disgusting, but still fun. At the end, there's a large area for bubble play. I guess that's where the kids really get muddy messy. Bubble angels look cool, but it makes for a really muddy kiddo! Surrounding the bubble party there are a couple of vendors. I caught: All Kine Grinds, Banan, Aloha Lemonade, and Ono Kettle Pop. From the entrance there's a shuttle that takes you all the way in. You choose if you wanna walk it or not. Extra steps so just depends on how motivated you are. The view is nice and horses to see on the way. We definitely will try to check out more of these walk/runs hosted by Cool Events. I read other reviews about the inconvenience it caused being shifted over from one event to the other on such short notice. I agree, but it ended up working out just fine for us. I paid the fee so I didn't wanna lose out. We gained a shirt, temp tattoo, a medal and quality family time with the active benefit. I'd say if it landed on a day where we had to work and couldn't make it, I would haved been really upset especially knowing it's non refundable... take the leap of faith and enjoy the activity, it was worth it for us. read more
