I am really thankful that Girl Scouts has this hidden gem in Altadena. I went here several times as a girl and now my daughter is attending events in the same space! The location has a scout house with complete kitchen, clean bathrooms. Outdoors there are grass areas, dirt area and bridge with little river. Great for troop camp outs, sing-a-longs as well as a Summer Day Camp which many reviews note. My impression of summer day camp at Camp Mariposa is that it is safe, affordable, goes the *entire* summer (which is rare) and fun! They do not go off site, there is no pool and no field trips which I feel help them keep the cost affordable. They have weekly themes which the activities are built around. Of the three summer camps my daughter has tried this was her second favorite and quite a financial saving over the other two. Most of the program is held outdoors and while there is shade at Camp Mariposa, Pasadena has experienced some intense humidity and heat the past two summers so bring extra water, apply sunscreen and send your daughter with a hat!!! Also I could see the potential for the camp to feel a bit monotonous but rounded out with vacation and another activity you would have a great summer plan. Girl Scouts has some neat renovations and additions in the pipeline for Camp Mariposa so I only expect it to get even better. read more
