Can anyone walk into an "old lady store" without thinking of the iconic scene from "This Is 40" where Leslie Mann's character is saying she can't turn 40 because she's not ready to have to shop at J. Jill, and Chico's, and Ann Taylor Loft? If you can that means you haven't seen that movie because that was the realist piece of cinema in recent history. I'm over 40 and I don't want to go to those stores either. However, as I was walking past this Chico's, the window display caught my eye. Wide leg jeans with a wide hem? Patterns? Colors? Hmm. I had extra time on my parking meter so I decided to give it a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised by the array of patterns and colors in the store. I recently went to Macy's and omg, it was just all late stage capitalism greys and muted hues. Moreover, the clothes in Chico's were higher quality fabrics, mostly cotton blends with a little spandex or blended with rayon and nylon. Now that would belie the higher price that might be seen at other stores, it's worth it to have something that's good looking and high quality, especially since Banana Republic has totally betrayed us. Alas, most of the clothes were a little older, preppier, or formal than I would normally wear but if I ever had to go back to an office setting, I would come here first. The sales people were very nice and this particular store has a nice vibe, being part of a main street rather than being in a mall. I didn't end up getting the jeans with the wide hem because they were victim to one of the monstrosities of women's pants: fake front pockets.
