Chow is a relatively new food truck - really a small trailer - parked in the corner of the lot occupied primarily by Plunkett's Garage in the heart of Madisonville. The menu is short, with a few american classics like burgers, hot metts, hot dogs, fries, and chili; plus fried fish, chicken wings, and various specials - for example, the special today was jambalaya. Everything is here is very inexpensive. The owner - Missy, who was formerly down the street at the now-closed BBQ Revue - runs the show here and enthusiastically answered all my questions while getting orders ready for the steady trickle of walk-up customers I am no expert on cajun or creole dishes, so I can't speak to authenticity; but the jambalaya (2.50 for a small, 3.50 for a large), which she said she now makes with a turkey sausage (since that's what most of her customers prefers) in place of the traditional andouille, was very good, with a mild heat that builds steadily as you work your way through it. I am a relative wimp when it comes to spicy foods, but it was nowhere near too much heat for me as I finished it. I also tried the chili cheese fries (one size - 3.50) and although the fries themselves were unremarkable crinkle cuts, the chili itself was pretty good. Mild, a little sweet, very savory. This doesn't come with chopped onions as the picture shows, but she added some on my request, no extra charge. She offers this same chili by the cup, on a hot dog or hot mett, or as "chili in a bag" - also known as a "frito pie" or a "walking taco" - basically an open bag of fritos with chili, cheese, and (if you like) raw onions dumped on top that you eat out of the bag with a fork. I'll likely get this next time, or another one of the specials - or I bet she'd make me a chili burger since she has all the necessary ingredients to make one, even though this isn't on the menuboard. Since this is an open air trailer, hours can and almost certainly will vary by season and weather conditions, but you can generally expect this stand to be open between 11 and 5 daily during the week, closed on weekends. There is no seating here, and so of course most all of the business is carryout. There is some parking nearby and in the small shopping center across the street. The business is cash-only for now, but she hopes to add the ability to take payment cards sometime in the near future Definitely worth a try if you are in the area, especially the specials UPDATE 20151208: had the chili in a bag (2.50) and the mac-n-cheese special (2.50) today, and both very good. The mac-n-cheese has elements of both the creamy northern style and the custardy southern style, and I think it will appeal to lovers of both types. read more
