After living in our home for two years, we were notified that the owner was selling and our lease would not be renewed. We were initially told the owner would be "willing to work with us," but after days of unanswered questions, we were told we had to be out by our lease end date with no flexibility. When I called seeking clarification, I was told by Haley Lay I was being "panicky" and "not flexible" because I couldn't leave work on 30 minutes' notice to tour another property. Of course I was panicking, we had just been told to leave our home. After moving out, we received a move-out statement containing charges that are excessive and inaccurate, including $200 because a door was unlocked and windows were left open, a city fine that was issued days after we had already moved out because the property wasn't checked promptly, cleaning charges based on a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home even though the property is listed for sale as a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house (they took down the listing after less than a month because no one wants to buy it anyway), and charges for ceiling damage from a leak that had been previously reported and there are work orders to prove it! It's one thing to choose not to renew a lease. It's another to miscommunicate, ignore tenants, speak to them disrespectfully during an incredibly stressful situation, and then try to nickel-and-dime them with ridiculous and false charges after they leave. This was, without question, the worst renting experience I've ever had. I've been a Property Manager for 8 years and would never treat residents like this. I would never rent from CAP Real Estate again, and I would encourage anyone considering them to think twice.
