This is a very authentic Mexican restaurant. We have been to Cancun 3 times in 2023 (and ate all local restaurants), and it turns out the owner-operator is from Cancun. The people seated next to us live in the east end of Toronto and travel to this west end specifically for this restaurant; they come from the same place in Mexico as one of the chefs; they obviously think the food is worth fighting Toronto traffic for it.
The Agave is a distinctive and beautiful succulent plant native to the America's, especially in Mexico. It is considered sacred in Mexico. One wall of the restaurant is painted with a field of cultivated Agave. Agave also means noble, admirable, and majestic.
We ordered the following:
1. Dragonfruit Margarita 2.5oz ($12.50)
2. Sour Sop Juice ($4.50).
3. Mole Enchiladas ($18.00)
4. Birria Tacos ($20.00). Only available on weekends.
5. Fish Taco ($6.99).
6. Tortilla Chips and Pico de Gallo ($4.00).
All the food was definitely authentic and delicious.
The Sour Sop Juice was fresh.
The Tortilla Chips were authentic and crunchy; it is very hard to find in Toronto.
The Fish Taco was delicious.
The Enchiladas use chicken white meat, which is juicy. The mole was also quite good. It comes with some Mexican rice.
The Birria Tacos were quite good. It was fun dipping the soft tacos into the birria, which is very tasty.
There are three sauces available, which are brought out in chilled bottles: Mean Green (not spicy), Tamgy Tamarind (slightly spicy), and Hot One (spicy). We liked the first two and used a lot of it.
The customer service was good.
There is adequate indoor seating, a few var seating, and two outdoor tables.
In the future, beer will be available.
They will be printing new menus to include Birria Tacos and Mango Pie. The Mango Pie is like a flan.
They opened 2024-02-02.
There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with door-open buttons. There is one gender-neutral washroom, and it is wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking.
