I just finished up my Private Pilot License through Cornerstone Aviation in Ogden. I've flown with 4 of their flight instructors (mostly with just one throughout most of the private pilot syllabus). All of them were very knowledgeable, and there was never a time when I felt unsafe flying with them. Moreover, I never felt like any of the instructors pushed the limits when it came to flying in poor weather. They were good examples of calling it a 'no fly day' when appropriate (which is a life-saving skill to learn). There's definitely a lot to learn with your private pilot license. Ogden was a good airport to fly out of since it was usually not to busy. Air traffic control was pretty accommodating. It had more of a 'training ground' airport than does Salt Lake International. Taxi times were a lot shorter and the airspace wasn't as congested. Before starting my pilot training, I looked at several schools along the wasatch front. Ultimately I decided to do my flight training through CSA. No regrets. Prices were comparable to other schools, and I never felt like any of the instructors were milking me for my money. The training seemed to be more thorough than the more "fast track" pilot mills out there. When it came time for my checkride with the FAA examiner, I felt reasonably prepared (still nervous as he**, as can be expected). But the instructors did a good job of being encouraging and getting me ready. Spent a flight or two reviewing a few maneuvers that didn't come as easily to me.
