This is a manufacturing plant and gift shop for the local and east coast popular Covered bridge chips. On the day I visited with a friend we discovered that for $5 they have a self guided tour of their manufacturing process by way of big windows following their production line. Also at the end of thee tour was promised a fresh bag of chips (right off the line) that you could season in their seasoning room from a variety of over 25 flavours your own seasoning. Holy macaroni.....for someone who is a border line "problem" potato chip lover this is like taking a fat boy to a cupcake shop. Yikes...I was thinking I need to control myself. Take deep slow breaths....you can make it there fella! Breathe.....breathe. You pay for $5 before entering and on the walls are various explanations of the potato chip process and explaining the history. SW NB is a very famous potato growing region so it's a great use of the regions bountiful potatoes.
The gift shop is packed with every current flavour covered bridge has. You have your usual BBQ, Salt and Vinegar and cracked salt and pepper, also some like MTL steak spice and sweet potato plus jalapeño. All good.
The self guided tour starts where a mechanical machine spits cut potatoes into a massive oil filled vat. Then a huge arm mixed em around. Then they are loaded onto a conveyor belt, seasoned and bagged. It's amusing to watch. Near the end a production worker comes out with a white bag of fresh chips. Mmmmm.....you head to the season room and shake season away. For someone who loves chips it's glorious. They had a whole bunch of seasoning not even on market. Such as Thai spice and poutine.
At the end after the tour you can take home a couple of bags. A great snack to inhale in front of the TV in the comfort of your home. You may ask why remove one star? I find Covered bridge a bit more on the oily side of taste. They are good chips just not my fave. Overall a great experience for anyone who loves chips. read more
