You can't miss this building on the KU campus. For starters, it is a stunning piece of architecture. It is made from concrete and glass and stands like a magnificent, gleaming structure. Secondly, it is located next to Allen Fieldhouse and you cannot ignore anything next to AFH. There are many things to see in this building. The Original Rules of Basketball are housed here and they are a thrill to behold. It is the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia in history. There are two gift shops located here. Great place to buy all KU souvenirs and memorabilia. There is a food court located on the first floor. There is a great assortment of restaurants from which to choose. There is Prairie Fire Grill, Sunflower BBQ, Freshens, and Brellas. The only chain restaurant is Freshens but it does not feel like a chain establishment. They have crepes, salads and rice bowls. The food is very good and fresh. Brellas serves mostly sandwiches and wraps. It is a very popular place with the students! Holly Rowe even tweeted about the crunchy chicken cheddar wraps from Brellas. LOL. The convenient thing about this food court is you can pre-order and pay through the Tapingo app. I have used it a great deal and it is a huge timesaver. The food court prices are slightly high. It's a niche market and they know they are the only game in town at the DeBruce. The DeBruce is a treat and not a steady diet because of the cost. The food, however, is delicious. It is fresh and prepared on the spot. There are many tasty offerings and I never get tired of the food choices at the DeBruce. The main dining area is gorgeous. You sit in the main glass enclosed area. You can look onto sumptuous lawns while dining. The DeBruce is a great place to people watch. It's quite breathtaking, actually. You also feel like you are sitting inside history and near something majestic. The staff has always been very nice and pleasant. They are easy to engage in conversation and do not mind helping with special requests. There are several caveats, though. The food court has limited hours. It closes early afternoon. The hours listed for the DeBruce on the website are misleading. The actual building, gift shops and the Rules of Basketball are open until around 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm. The food court closes at around 3:00 pm. I also do not think they have weekend food court hours. The food court is a big production so I would doubt they are open when students are not around. The other Heads Up is that if you come at noon, expect this place to be very busy. There are tons of students dining at noon so it's packed and you will probably have to wait in line. A long line. The food court design is lacking and there is one narrow entrance. At noon when school is in session, everyone is entering (or trying to) into those narrow food court doors. This is definitely something that should be experienced. It is a very unique Lawrence thing! read more
