Eldora, CO is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
The hikes around the Fourth of July Campground aren't perfectly labeled on Yelp so, to be clear, I'm reviewing the Fourth of July Trail to Arapohoe Pass (this hike: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/arapahoe-pass-and-lake-dorothy-trail)
Again - it is SPECTACULAR.
I was just making a Colorado bucket list for a friend when I started digging around for this hike and couldn't find it. I must have forgotten to Yelp since there's 1) no cell service there, and 2) it probably wasn't on Yelp at all then.
It's a 7-ish mile out and back, which means it's an any-mile hike, really. Feeling sluggish? Turn around sooner. Feeling adventurous? Soldier on! We made it a 7.5mi trek with some roaming around at the top; the views are out of this world, and we were only turned back by the wind (it's a tornado up there!).
Bring plenty of water and some snacks. This hike will put you to work! We saw some pooches doing it, and all of them had booties to protect their feet.
The road up to the trailhead is also incredibly bumpy with potholes that could swallow a small child. (This is perfect Subaru Outback/Crosstrek territory - aka the Colorado State Car.) Drivers, beware!
That said, I couldn't love this place more and still dream of it often. The landscape is magical and varied. Sunflowers, mountains, forests, streams...it's all here! read more
