I've been a fan of these stores since the days when their logo was "Deal$," which, of course, made it difficult to find on Yelp because the search function thinks you're looking for rando deals. Not a bad thing to be presented with deals for everything under the sun, but when you're looking for a store called deals, it can get a bit hairy. At my old favorite Deals store in Bushwick, I'd have to zoom in to the actual block and redo the search to be able to check in.
That said, this Deals has a fun few aisles of holiday-related schwag to round out your xmas shopping. And of course, my 2-year-old was absolutely enthralled with the selection of toy cars, which makes me think that maybe I should've bought him a $3 toy from here rather than the Transformer-like creature/vehicle I ended up getting him as his primary wheeled gift. Dammit, Santa!
There's a decent selection of $1 coloring books and stationery supplies, which I always appreciate. But a gallon of milk costs $4.50, which is a far cry from the $3.69 at the nearest Stop & Shop and my absolute go-to place for moo juice, Trader Joe's, which sells it for $2.89 per gallon. Given that folks of modest means generally patronize this store, it seems rather untoward to jack up the cost of lactose here. Other than that, it's an OK store. read more
