I have been looking for Okonomiyaki to try for the first time from here to Portland and one day I came across this place and saw they had it so the task of going had to start!
We drove to Springfield and found Dozo, which was easy to find. Got there right as they opened and tried the spread of Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, and the Tonkatsu Sando.
The Okonomiyaki with pork belly was amazing! First time trying it and it was to me the best thing of the night. I have seen it on shows where the cabbage was shredded, but here it was cut coarsely and was a great bite amongst the other flavors. The pork belly also had a crisp feel to them as it was draped on top of the Okonomiyaki. The sauce was full of ginger taste and eating it on a cold day while it was warm was an added bonus.
The Sando was number 2 on things to try. The pork was juicy and the breading just right when it came to crispiness. The bread was soft and the sauces were complimentary to the Tonkatsu.
The takoyaki was the first time I had it and I don't know if the middle was supposed to be liquid in the middle, so the texture was a bit off for me. Although there are plenty of octopus chunks in it.
The staff was amazingly friendly and made our first experience awesome. Please give these folks a chance their food is amazing.
We wanted to try the Ramen too, but we were too full to attempt it. But this will give us the chance to go back for the ramen and the Okonomiyaki again. read more
