Stopped in today while doing the 2026 Tri-State Stamping Tour with American Legion Post 289 in West Milford, NJ. 158 places across NJ, NY, and PA to support the Veterans and those who support them. This was stop 9 of 158. I have never been here but my bf always told me they're known for their seafood so I was excited to try because we usually go to Biggies.
I was majorly disappointed. The good part - they were in fact wicked fresh. The major issue - they were ridiculously gritty. The shells were full of sand ON THE OUTSIDE. So you couldn't slurp them up like you're supposed to. So what's the big deal, use a fork. But you couldn't do THAT because whoever shucks doesn't know you're supposed to cut the muscle and free the clam to float in the shell. So yeah. We had to take a knife or fork and try to pull it out of the shell. Then suffer through the grit. I hate to say it but you can't be known for seafood if you can't shuck a raw clam right. This is seafood 101. read more
